Countdown and confused

I am finally on count down as my surgery is scheduled for December 30. I decided to enjoy Christmas and what foods I had as this is the last time I will be able to "enjoy" them. My question has to do with the final couple of days before the surgery. My doctor said there was no food restrictions till midnight before the surgery or bowel preparations at all. Is this the normal process for everyone? I see where people had to have only liquids a day or two before and some have a bowel cleanout. I guess I'm a little confused and would appreciate some feedback. Thank you?

My surgeon put me on a weeks full liquid pre op (with the exception of Xmas Dinner he said I could have) He stated it was to prepare me for after surgery so it wouldnt be such a shock and I can get to the store for whatever I would need to stock up on. I do not have to do a bowel prep. I guess he figures the liquid diet should take care of most what is left! I do think each surgeon has what works for them and what they feel is best for you. We will all be different but facing the same journey. Best wishes!

I think it has to do with your starting weight. The heavier you are the larger your liver is. My doctor wants me on clear liquids the day before but I know that he has had others lose 10 pounds or so before WLS. Best of luck to you my surgery is the same day so we will be weight loss twins! Joy

Patricia, I cannot honestly say if it is normal. I was upset when I read that some people had been on liquid diets for two weeks, and my doc had not mentioned it to me. I think that every doc is different. If it makes you that worried, ask about it. Then no matter what anyone says, you will know from the horses mouth (so to speak) Melissa

I just couldn't eat or drink after midnight the night before. My surgery went great with no complications! sherry 260/250.5
