What is your post-op diet?
I am 13 days out and I am eating all liquids. Which means, yogurt, baby food, creamed soups. I even mushed some cream cheese and had that. I also eat ricotta and cottage cheese. Don't really care if I eat it or not, but that is what the instructions say, so that is what I am doing. I will be on this until January 16 when my G tube comes out. Good luck to you,
Carol
I was on clear fluids the first week and now am starting week two menu of full liquids. I eat (drink) only three meals a day of three ounces each. The rest of the day is filled with getting my fluids in (8-8oz of non caloric fluid) wi*****lude my 3- 8oz protein drinks a day.
This week I can have cream of wheat cereal made with Dbl milk also SF puddings as well. Low fat Strained cream soups are an inprovement over the clear diet, but I'm having no problems at all and would like to eat some reg food, so I am counting the days.
Good luck to you, I see we have the same surgery date. How are you feeling? I'm feeling great!
Terry
Hi Terry,
I still have one week of clear liquids, I have not minded it at all. Next Monday I move on to phase two. I really have had no desire to eat, kind of scared to. I am so affraid of dumping or something not agreeing with me. I know that is part of it.
I am feeling great, except real tired. My doctor did say to expect that, I had emergency surgery in Nov, and just got released to have this done. I was real sick with that one. I can't believe I slept as long as I did today, but I guess it is my body saying I needed sleep. I usually get up at 5:30 get everyone off, then take a nap for an hour around 10:00, this morning I laid back down at 9:00 and got up at 1:00 only cause the phone rang. I just took a walk down to to the mail box. I need to jump in the shower and get cleaned up before the kids come home.
Well, thanks for you input I was just curious. It is so funny how each doctor thinks differently.
Take care,
JC
Hi Sharon,
Congrats on your 18 lbs. Isn't it just fantastic the way the weight is coming off. I am so thrilled. I can tell in my face and my hips. My stomach is still a bit swollen but I can't see a difference.
I get to start on phase two next Monday. Not that the liquids have been bad, I am scared of things not sitting well and getting sick, I so don't want to dump.
I am not at the point of having any energy yet. I am real drained. My doctor told me to expect that because of the emergency surgery I had in November. I had a real bad absess and that really did me in. I was so sick ran fever of 103 taking Tylenol. Stupid me should have gone to the emergency room on Friday night when it got real bad but I waited till Monday to get an appt, and by that time I had a massive amount of infection. I just didn't feel it was a true emergency although I felt like I wanted to die. Oh well.
I am hoping by next week to overcome this tired phase, overall I have done great, maybe a little to great and overdid myself in some ways.
So looking forward to 2006, one year where I can make a resolution and keep for a long time.
You too, have a very Merry Christmas,
JC
I had surgery on Friday and was sent home on Sunday on a pureed diet. At first, I wasn't hungry and scared to eat foods so Sunday evening I mainly did liquids and SF applesauce and jello (yummy)! I am now eating or trying to eat puree food and its hard. I eat at least 3 small meals a day and have 2 snacks in between. Which has included grits, eggs (watery), pureed chicken, tuna fish, egg drop soup and mashed potatoes. I was told to have 6 small meals a day but I can't get up to that point yet plus drink all my million ounces of fluid. I did have my first dumping episode day 2 of being home. It was awful, felt like I was about to die but I survived it, I had to eventually make myself fall asleep and then I woke up a few hours later feeling a little better. My body felt different when I awoke. But overall, I am on pureed food for the next 4 weeks hopefully. I am ready for some regular foods. I can't wait until I am able to go to Red Lobster's!!!
JaNae
JaNae,
To funny, Red Lobster. Just the other night my husband said "you know we should take Jim and his girlfriend out to Red Lobster for Christmas" then all of sudden he knew what he had said. Poor guy felt bad, since I am still on liquids. It did not bother me at all. I can't believe that stuff like that doesn't bother me anymore.
I will still be on liquids till next Monday then I go to phase 2, pureed. I am a bit scared that something will not sit well and I will dump. I am so afraid of that. I know it is a given that one day it will happen. But I don't want it to. Oh well.
Well, when the time comes for you to hit Red Lobster enjoy!!
Take care,
JC
I was sent home on a puree diet. I can basically eat anything as long as it is the consistency of apple sauce. I bought a baby food maker before surgery for this phase and I am so glad that I did! It works wonderfully, which suprised me to be honest. If anyone wants info about the one I got, I will gladly share. I have had no complications, but have had what I believe is full tummy pain twice before I got in my 4 ounces of pureed food. At that point, I immediately stop eating and feed the rest to whoever is nearby - my husband, the cats, or the dogs. I am only really eating 2 meals or less a day, but since my carb count was low, I am trying to eat more foods. My nutritionist wants me to get in each day:
Protein 75 grams
Fat 30 grams (at least 10 in one meal)
Carbs 100 grams
Fluids 64 ounces
I am doing good except I am not getting in enough carbs and fat.
I am very thankful that my doc doesn't require weeks and weeks of liquid diets!!
