eating times?
I had surgery on the 12th as well.
I can eat my 4 ounces within 30 minutes - no problem. I do use an baby spoon and try spacing my bites out, but I have decided that if it doesn't hurt then I am probably not going too fast. Like tonight, I was going too fast and it made me hurt, so I slowed down more. I figure when we go to eating solid foods it will take a lot longer to eat the 4 ounces because there will be thorough chewing involved. Right now, I am just not able to spread it out over 30 minutes when there is nothing to do besides put it in the mouth and swallow.
Now, my concern has been with fluid, like water, juice, tea... I can drink so much more than I am "supposed" to be able to. What I have read says sip, you will only be able to get about 4 ounces in in 30 minutes. I kid you not, I can drink 20 ounces in 30 minutes. This is taking sips, waiting, then sipping some more. Since I went to cold liquids, I can actually feel the water go into my stomach, stop for a short time, and then start moving down. I was told that my surgeon went to using a larger stapler to cut down on strictures, so I am think my stoma is just large enough that the fluid doesn't stay in my pouch long, and that is why I can drink more so soon. I am sure that as the stoma heals more it will drawl up some and get smaller. For now, food stays around well enough, so I decided not to worry about it.
Hi all
I had my surgery 12-13-05. Depending on the consistancie of the food I can eat between 2 and 4 ounces in about 30 minutes. I don't feel hungry but never realy feel "full". I did feel more pain the firat few days when I tried to eat more that 2 ounces of thicker food like cottage cheese so I'm careful. This realy is a learning thing isn't it?
