started preop diet

i started my preop diet 3 days ago. i know i started it 5 days early. basically i know of 2 people who came in on their surgery date and they came right back out of the OR because their liver was not shrunk yet. hence the reason for the preop diet...to shrink the liver down. i would be so upset if that were me. i guess my own thinking is that several extra days will not hurt...only help! its really not that bad. every day i wake up w/ a countdown by saying "only 17 more days!". to me that is not a long time and it is like an incentive to stick to it and not cheat because 19,18, & now 17 days from now is really not a long time. yes it is basically an atkins diet. but before when doing atkins to lose weight i felt that there was no end in sight for me. i am looking forward to the 20th!

Do what ever works! This just a suggestion: Try some of the post-op menus. The "A" diet is filled with fat that will go straight to you liver... been there. Try a non-diet approach since after WLS your needs will be to get healed and heathier. You'll need your vitamins even more. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
