I have little nubby new hairs growing in at the roots making my hair stand up..I had it cut short when it was falling out, now I'm looking like little Orphan Annie if I don't take the hot blow dryer and flat brush to it and smooth it down. I wish I hadn't cut it. I did notice when I started eating more and adding a little fat and carbs (LITTLE BIT) and started eating more meats, my hair stopped falling out and my skin, and nails began to look better too. I take one Centrim chewable a day and drink one protein shake a day and take my mega B12 dot every three days. I have some calcium chews, and need to start eating them, I know..But I drink a glass of skim milk and use it in my protein shake with a splash of coffee in it, and eat icecream everyday..Klondike no surgar added krunch bar..and love cottage cheese, eat that as a snack almost every day. I think a balanced diet is best and more natural than trying to cut out the fat and carbs completely..they have nutrition value too. I eat anything I want in moderation except for pastries, candy and chips..well, I might grab a small hand full of chips on rare occasions, but would never make a habit of it. I have my son keep his chips in his bedroom now, so I haven't grabbed any in weeks..

PS..I never missed a color treatment ..just continued coloring after surgery about every 4 weeks! makes the texture nicer and the shine makes me feel good..

To be honest I have not lost any hair, that I know of, I keep my hair in extensions, b/c of this reason. Anywho, just wanted to offer support and my nut says that hairloss is related to lack of protein (shrugs) good luck to you.

The hair loss is caused by several factors. #1--lack of protein, the drugs used as anesthesia, and the hormone changes My hair started falling out in March----I quit getting it colored then too. It grew a little, but mostly fell out. I had LONG grey roots and my color had washed out to a mousy brown. I started taking Biotin in late March. By late April my hair had stopped falling out. I finally noticed it growing back in in July and decided---GOOOOO GOOOOOO get it colored. I also got it cut then, back to my normal style. I am due for another color job in about two weeks. I can happily say----my hair is BACK to its normal self.

I feel hopeful now- thanks guys. It's helpful to hear everyone's experiences and ideas. And the fact that coloring hasn't caused anything catastrophic!

Hello- in addition to being thin, limp and blah- I hadn't colored my hair since surg (actually I just highlight). I told my hairdresser I was afraid to and she said actually it will give it more body. (but mine was so limp...if it's already coarse I don't know...). Anyway, I did it and it really did help and looked better. It seemed one day..boom it quit falling out and now suddenly it seems back to "normal" although, strangley, I don't really have the new/short hairs growing in that people mention. Maybe I don't notice cuz it's short. Good luck anyway........Jody
