Hello fellow December Babies Today is my 6 months anniversary and I'm not where I expected to be. I am down 75 total and am very grateful for the good health afforded tome. This past 6 weeks has been very stressful with work and family issues overwhelming me. I discovered that my 40 something years of bad habits have returned. I can eat whatever I want and not get sick. I started grazing and slacking on the exercise. I've vowed that this is temporary setback and that I will go back to the basics. I haven't even updated my profile in awhile. I went to the Obesity Help conference in Milwaukee a week ago and was reenergized. If you have an opportunity to go to one...do it. There was a speaker who spoke on overcoming your addictions. She said that surgery may not be the cure for what ails most overeaters. She went over depression and coping mechanisms we use...food is still my drug of choice. Recognizing that, I'm learning to deal with the life roadblocks and seriously considering therapy. Dr Monica Ganz's talk was so inspiring and I left the conference loaded with information and free samples. This weekend, I'm taking a shorttrip to Columbus, OH to spend sometime with friends I met over the net 10 years ago. They will see a new and improved Chauncine. I'm looking forward to the fitness center, hottub, dancing all night and those wonderful Sheraton beds. Continue to keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Miz Chauncine Dr Prewit 12/12/05 ~75lbs and still losing.

Hi! My six month will be on 6/28 and I'm doing pretty darn good I think! I'm down 96 lbs since surgery, and I hope to lose another 65 or so by the time I finish. Things that I never read about when researching that really effected me... I began at a size 26/28 prior to surgery and have been up and down and up and down my whole life, so I had clothes from every size starting with 18 and going all the way to 28. I just now started realizing that I've never been (as an adult) any smaller than I am right now and I'm out of clothes that fit. In putting together boxes of clothes to send to my family in Missouri (all big gals), I realize that some of these clothes I had real emotional attachments to, the sweatshirt that fit me loosely no matter what size I ballooned to gave me comfort; the "skinny" jeans that are now too big and used to be such a boost when I could finally get "small" enough to wear. It's been challenging to let go of these things, and realize that I'm not going to go UP again, this is real loss. I'm losing much slower than before, but still losing a respectable 2-3 lbs a week, which I really can't complain about. But, it's weird to go from a lb a day to 2-3 a week. If the hair loss will stop soon, I think I'll be 20X better, it's a scary side effect that I told myself I could avoid if I made sure to get my protein in - wrong! The changes that we're going through on a daily basis are AMAZING and I'm so proud for all of us for making it through this journey!

Erin, Thanks for the great "soul searching" opportunity. Here is my response: I am doing well after almost 6 mos. I have lost about 80 lbs and 90 since before my surgery. Like everyone else, it has slowed down and sometimes I eat a little too much and a few too many carbs so of course I don't lose as fast. I am feeling really great! I am doing daily walking and have plenty of energy. I haven't lost any hair...I know that I am the exception, but I am happy for that since my hair was always thin even before surgery. It is hard to say what the biggest change has been since surgery since there have been so many! I must say I have never thrown away so many clothes! I was wearing 26/28 and now am in 16's. Can't wait til I can shop in the regular size department. I am still not used to being able to fit into smaller places....like booths in restaurants! Yay! I am going on a big vacation next week to Europe and I am anticipating that the flight will be much more comfortable because I will be able to fit better in my seat! I am so glad I had this surgery. Sometimes I miss eating big like I used to, but for the most part, it is nice that I can have a little bit of most foods (even sweets) and be satisfied. Having the surgery has made it so much easier to eat less. I used to be SO HUNGRY all of the time when I was trying to lose weight. It doesn't feel that way now. Good luck to everyone on the December board! Love, Diana 291/281/201.5

I have lost about 68-70# since surgery 6 months ago. I was sure I could be under 200# by Easter - but have been on a looooong plateau and have been up and down 2-3 pounds for the past couple of months. I know it is my own fault - I have never got into the exercise routine. I work full-time+ on the night shift and keep a very strange daily routine. I am glad to see the progress I have made - but need to kick it into gear and take full advantage of this first year. When I look on-line or go to support group meetings and hear how many never cheat - I am amazed - I wish I could be more disiplined. Nancy

We hear about the 3% who don't cheat. Not the 97% who do. Scott

Told me to up the exercise thou. Which I will do. I still have along way to go, but I am feeling better everyday.. Thanks for asking how we all are doing.. Hope your knees feel better, I know the problem well. Lynn

Hi, Erin! I am doing just fine. I have lost nearly 80 lb. total. I feel much better than I used to feel. Not nearly as much pain! I had hoped to be at 90 lb. lost by my six month appointment on the 30th, but I have been on another stall this month...my THIRD STALL so far... GRRRRR!!! The biggest change for me is the exercise. I go at least three times a week for about two hours each time. I do the treadmill, the exercise bike, and all the weight machines. I have recently been using free weights to improve my upper arms as well. My husband thinks I exercise too much, but I feel I need to go at least one more time a week to keep up and improve my good results. It is sometimes very hard, though, to find that kind of time... My next goal is to get to onederland. Will it ever happen? Yah, it will! HUGS! Pat

Hi everyone, My 6 month appointment is next week. I have lost about 85 pounds and am very happy with that. I swear that I don't loose a thing the first 2 weeks of my cycle and then I will lose 5-10 pounds in the next 2 weeks - strange... Don't really have a goal though I would like to fit into medium sized clothes because my daughter has an outfit from Coldwater Creek that I love and intend to 'borrow.' Everything has been going well. Still have to be very careful how much and how fast I eat but I can at least try most things as long as they don't have alot of sugar. I don't routinely exercise but I have been working outside alot - putting in a garden and flower beds. Last year I could only work for about 1/2 hour and I would be pooped. Tonight I worked on the flower beds for 4 hours and felt great!! Biggest changes - no more pain in my knees and hip, swelling in my ankles is long gone, no more shortness of breath just walking into work, shopping in regular clothing stores(so many choices!), I just discovered that I can cross my legs - haven't done that since college... Oh - and I actually am developing a figure for the first time since college - instead of just being round. Have had alot of complements lately - hard to get used to - I figure that I am still the same person and the only thing that is changing is the way I look. I stopped by to see my husbend aunt the other day and she did not recognise me at first - that was very strange. I hate to say this but you are treated a bit differently when you are thinner - not so much by people you know well but by others - better service, etc. Thank you everyone for all of your support and information - the whole process would have been much worse without this board! Now - everytime that I get someone really interested in the surgery, I give them this website....

I hardly stop by here anymore, but I drop in on occasion to see how everyone is doing. Seeing as how it's the big 6 months, I will add mine too... I started at 274, but got down to 264 during my diet I started just before I saw my surgeon for the first time. Today I am weighing in at 168. So, that 106 pounds so far... I have just started fitting into size 10's and I about fainted and cried my eyes out! I still have trouble eating because I am hardly ever hungry. More a feeling of being empty and needing nutrition. Most of my diet is protein, with some carbs, but usually in the form of wheat crackers or rice. My calories are still at 500 or so a day and my loss has remained steady. I am going to see my doc about why my pouch won't let me eat, but for now, I'll take the weight loss... I have been seeing a therapist about food and emotional issues and find that I no longer want to eat due to stress or emotions. I feel that this is KEY for me... I recommend a therapist to everyone! lol... I just updated my before and afters at the bottom of my profile and I am looking forward to the future and planning on making goal before christmas! 28 pounds left...
