Honestly, there must be a remedy.

Hello everyone. I'm hanging out with you daily, mostly lurking, and I want to, first, let you know.. I'm so happy to have each and every one of you and your support. Thank you!!! My question, and I have to ask... How many notice that their neck is hanging loose, mostly the upper neck at the curve under their chin? I realize that at my age, it may just be one of those age related thingies, that was hiding under all the fat before I lost 83lbs, but gee wizz, My 70 year old mother doesn't even have a turkey neck. I just turned 49. I really don't mind my body being flabby, I can cover that up, but I can't cover my neck..I have jowls now too..I look so poor and sad all the time wheather I feel that way or not. So much for growing old gracefully.. Please don't get me wrong, I'm greatful for the WLS and it's saved my life, but as a woman, I still want to look attractive ofcourse. I'm only a little over 5 months out from surgery, so I am hoping that my skin will catch up since I was only heavy a few years..Do you think it might? Just a concern of mine maybe I just need company in my misery.. I searched the Q&A Keyword for some answers, but it's easy to just use selective picking of satifying answers..exercise is what I want to hear, but so far, no good, it doesn't seem to be working for me. Since you all are right there with my surgery date, I wonder if anyone has this issue? I wonder if Plastic surgery would be my only hope?..I don't want anymore surgery. My husband has said, what ever makes me happy..Well, I would be perfectly happy with out this neck hanging! But if I can keep from surgery, that would be a relief. I've exercised it, creamed it, bought so many products for this that it's getting ridiculous! I even heard about some tape that sticks behind your ears, hooked to a string to the back of your head to pull the neck and face up, I would concider trying that..IF I CAN EVER FIND IT..LOL Has anyone found anything that actually works? Sorry for the whinning..Some days are easier than other's, we know.. Welcome to my pitty party. Thank you for "listening" and for your replies, condoldences(LOL) and help! 248/165/150 5'9" (I've grown and inch since surgery!?) 49 years OLD. Janet

Janet, Some problems are good to have. I don't have a magic answer, but I will suggest continuing to use a moisturizer. Don't buy expensive stuff, just regular moisturizer or lotion will keep the skin pliant. Smile OFTEN, it helps the appearness of the droopiness. Since I was a twenty something, I use the exercise of gritting my jaw up so that it pulls on my bottom chin and neck muscles. It is a grimace type thing, so mostly I do it while driving in the car. It seems an appropriate time. I am not having the drooping neck stuff yet, but oh honey, do I have on my arms! I am using the small weights and moving my arms often to build some muscle tone under the flab hanging down. I am wondering if anyone would notice if I took my heavy duty stapler and just tucked the skin up with a nice even row of silver staples? (That is how I hem pants and I have gotten away with it for years). At six-ish months, we have a long way to go in the firming up which I firmly beleive conutinues to happen for a long time. My biggest fear was to look old. Being a chunky faced person, I never looked my age. So far, dear folks tell me I am still looking fine. I have decided if anyone tells me I look old, I am going to laser them. Congrats on the sucess! You found a way to lose the weight that was affecting your life. You will find a way to handle this moment, too. Hugs, Vicky

Janet My neck is awful. I too look sad and lonely. This is not me and I don't like it either. One of my cousins a year ahead of us had the same thing. The neck is still there but she doesn't look sad any more. It is too hot in Dec to even wear a turtle neck on the island. I am putting every thing on my neck and nothing is working. Oh and we won't even talk about my BAT WINGS

Janet -- You mean I'm not the only one??? I can't offer any help, but moral support. At the gym the other day I was walking on the treadmill and watching that skin bounce back and forth -- it was awful! I'm going to really start putting more lotion on, but other than that, I may have to wait for plastic surgery, dang it! Lisa

Thanks Lisa, for the moral support! No, you are not the only one..looks like there's plenty of us around..Maybe someone will have a solution, remedy..but guess right now, I'm thinking I am like you..will have to wait for plastic surgery..I'm not living with the gobbler! IT's got to go!

Hi Janet, I can't believe how wrinkled my neck has become. I knew my facial wrinkles would look worse, but just didn't expect the neck to look so bad. You might want to check with a plastic surgeon about something called "thread contouring," which is much less invasive than a face lift and apparently quite effective. I think when I have lost the rest of my weight and stabilized for a few months, I may consider that option for my neck. At nearly 60, I guess I'm entitled to a few wrinkles, but that doesn't mean I have to like them! Be good to yourself. Judy

Thanks Judy, I'll look into that thread contouring..maybe I can find a few things about it on the NET. Hey, you are looking great! Funny how these pictures don't show the neck thingie, huh? Have you ever noticed when you're talking to someone, they keep looking at it????? I do. I get so consious about it, I forget what the converstation is about and leave.. I wonder, and I'll ask my surgeon about it, how long do I have to wait to be concidered for something to be done, or is that up to me?
