Stomach Virus

Wow, the first time I've been sick since surgery and I get hit with the Norwalk Stomach Virus! I've never had the diarrhea so bad in my life! I got so dehydrated that I finally went to the ER and got checked out and 2 bags of IV fluids. This little virus is so contagious and they say you shouldn't be around people for 3 days after all the symptoms are gone just to be on the safe side. (try telling my little grandson that - poor kid wanted his grandma so bad but I just couldn't go near him - I didn't want him to get this - he would've ended up in the hospital!) I was nauseated too but not like I used to get - mostly intestinal distress but it was hard to drink or eat anything because of the nausea - that is why I got dehyrdated a bit. Today has been a good day but now much pouch feels like it did at first - full the minute I eat or drink anything! I drank 1/2 a slim fast and felt so full - it was miserable. I hope this doesn't happen to any of you but if it does, beware that dehydration happens fast so you probably will need to go get some fluids. They also did a CBC and a mineral panel to make sure I hadn't ruptured my appendix or something and found that my potassium was low so got started on some of that. I was just glad to know I wasn't going to die or have to have surgery again! Here's to better days ahead! Diona

Sorry you have been sick. I have some vitmin dieficiencies so bought a nutrition book. It says dates are good for diahrrhea and dysentery. And papayas have potassium & are anti-parasitic and soothe intestinal inflammation and gas. Kiwi is an excellent source of digestive enzyme. SWEET POTATOES are easily digestible help digestive trct inflammation and have potassium. These are direct quotes from THE FOOD DOCTOR. Maybe this will help.

Diona, I am so sorry that you caught this awful stuff. Bill and Krissy had it about a month ago, it was miserable for them. I am just grateful that I did not get it. I haven't been online for a while so didn't see your post until tonight. Hope you are feeling much better and I know you and your grandson will just be thrilled when the incubation period is over. I know it is just as hard on you to be away from him. Sherr

Yikes! I'm dreading ever getting the flu, I think throwing up would be awfully scarey and painful but hopefully that's just in my head. LOL Hope it's all over and doesn't come to Virginia! -Margaret
