Charlotte,
You are similar to me in that my starting weight was 265, and my goal weight is 140. I am 5'2" and I cannot get down to that elusive 140 no matter what I do. I work out like I am supposed to, I eat reasonably. I go between 143 and 146 pretty regularly. I have NEVER made it to 140 or below.
When I look down, all I see is FAT. When I look in the mirror, I barely recognize the woman I see. I look really decent. The girl that does my hair said, "Damn, you don't realize just how petite you really are". But like I said, when I look down, all I see is FAT.
Here is what I think is my problem and may be yours too.
Perhpas 140 is my realistic goal weight. But I think what is keeping me from reaching it is this stinking pannus. And when i look down and see fat, I am seeing pannus. So, my theory is that once I have this removed (end of Sept), I will be more proportionate and when I look down, I will see my crotch and not my gut. I am positive I have at least 3 lbs worth of pannus that will be removed. So, once I am healed and recovered, I am sure I will be down to my 140 that I am looking for, plus I won't have this skin hanging down there and will look more normal for someone of this weight.
Do you have a big pannus that is fooling you into thinking you are still fat? If so, see about getting that removed and I bet you will feel like a whole new person.

I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I'm having similiar tough times in my personal and career lives. I don't purge, but I don't lose weight very well either.
Somedays, I get too caught up in depression to eat properly.
I find I have to journal and plan all of my daily eating, in order to get enough protein. I still have at least one protein shake per day and still take all my vitamins. This seems to keep my physically healthy.
I'm seeing a counsellor to work on the mentally healthy part of my problems. Counselling is a good thing. If you can get access to a good counsellor, I highly recommend it.
We have to keep reminding ourselves that the surgery only fixes our physical being and we have to work on our mental / spiritual sides, by ourselves.
My heart goes out to you. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Alas, I wi**** was me. I'm still struggling to lose my weight. I'm down to about 178 pounds and really want to get to 150. My loss is very very slow. I would love to be a size 2, 4 or 8 ! LOL.
You have done amazingly well with your program. Don't give up. Just keep doing everything right and you will achieve your goals. Perhaps some PS might be in your future?
Cheers & Best Wishes

Hi Candy!
I feel ya! I can't stop eating Goldfish crackers! I'm buying them by the dozens and get aggravated if they're $1.84 at my local Kroger Grocery store, that I'll drive 2 miles further to buy them for $1.35 at Walmart! They're baked crackers and small enough for just that salty treat I want. I can wear as small as a size 6 to 8 in my dresses and skirts but my butt still keeps me in a size 12 pants (maybe a size 10 - haven't bought pants or jeans in a while). I think the goldfish (crackers) are swimming straight to my butt!
Topic: RE: Constipation Problem!
Are you taking iron pills? Iron can cause constipation. You may need to lower the dosage of iron you are taking; or increase iron rich foods to get the adequate amount of iron daily. If you do take iron, take it with orange juice so that it is better absorbed by the body. Drink plenty of fluids; try to increase your intake of veggies (have a salad w/ carrots, raw spinach {excellent source of iron}, tomato, cucumber, etc); try multi-grain breads (delicious! 7 grain, 9 grain and even 15 grain) breads are great; exercise (especially walking and anything that keeps the digestive tract moving). Sounds like you are on the right track. Avoid the daily use of laxatives which can be addictive to the point that the body won't or can't function w/o them. Try prune juice at room temp also. Yuck! Sounds like you're doing the right things. Cut back or down on your iron pills and see if that's your culprit. Charlotte, Lvn
Topic: Those stubborn last 10 pounds!
Hello. I did not know this page even existed until now. Glad to know others that are at my current stage. I could really use all the help, support and advice I can get!
I am 17 months post op. I started at my heaviest at 250# (5'4"), size 24, 2x-3x. Had the surgery Thursday, December 29, 2004. To date I am 150#, size 8, small to medium and feeling great. I spoke to my Physician's Assistant the other day and told her that 135# (ideal weight for my height and frame) was too small and she agreed. I'd like to maintain at 140 to 150 pounds so that if I do gain weight, it's well within my acceptable limit. I do not want to get above 150#. She did give me some good reminders on what I'm supposed to be doing. I would like advice from actual patients who have experienced plateau's; jumpstarted their weight loss again; and maintained their weight goal. I don't want to become obsessive about my weight. I just want to stay as far away from 200# as I can! Here's a funny question you can answer too - Did anyone ever NOT realize how skinny they were or how much weight you actually lost until you saw a picture of yourself? I know I've lost weight; my clothes and body are smaller, but I don't even see it in the mirror - only in my photos! LOL. I guess that's a good thing!! Here's to lots of pictures!

From experience, a psychologist can really help you Donna... I had some major issues going on a few years ago and one helped me to get my life back on track... So think about seeing one hon... there is no shame in admitting you need someone to talk to... A good psych can help you work through the issues and get to the bottom of why this is happening to you... Don't ignore it hon because it's not going to go away on its own as Ron seems to think...
Your chart is a good idea too I think... But I urge you to accept some help to get you over the hump... I'm worried about you....
God bless hon and if you need me, I am here for you!!
