Hello, Hope everybody had a wonderful Valentine's Day!!! My question is: Do you guys know if is OK to take Advil now? How about Zantac 75 or Pepcid AC? I get this horrible pain and I have notice that I get it if I have my stomach empty the reason I say that is because as soon as I eat something it goes away. If you have read my profile I have something about it there. I had an Upper GI, Ultrasound, X-rays and Scope and all the gastro could come up with was that I had a little infection in my stomach so she put me on Nexium together with antibiotic for 2 weeks and that was all. My pain is similar to gall bladder pain I'm not sure how many of you have experienced that but I know I have. My gall bladder was removed in '95. At least I thought that was the reason for my pain but 10 years later I still get it. It must be something else so I'm thinking acid reflux. I was hoping that instead of prescribed meds I could take OTC anti-acids. Hope everybody have a wonderful evening. I will see your replies tomorrow. Thanks for your info, Norma Cantu 242/185/170

Advil and any NSaids are a no-no for life. They can cause ulcers in your new pouch. Antacids are okay, but be cautious of taking too much. Tums will do the same thing and they are also a good source of elemental calcium, so you can do yourself some good....while taking the extra meds. Try Tums for awhile and see if it helps. You really should call your PCP or your surgeon before taking any OTC. Karen G PS - Congrats on your great stats !!!

Thanks for the info Karen. You are doing great. Is the calcuim on Tums Citrate? That's the kind I take already with vitamin D. Ms. Lovely Rita told me that's the kind we need. Anyway I might still try tums. Norma

The calcium in TUMS is "elemental", which means that it is a compound formula of both citrate and carbonate. It is not a great permanent solution to your calcium needs. 100% calcium citrate is still a better permanent choice. However, the extra calcium in TUMS won't do you any harm and it may really help your acid problem. Thanks for your support. !! Karen G

I am going tomorrow for a gallbladder ultrasound, a KUB xray, and an upper GI. I have, for the last 2 weeks, been hurting everytime I eat or drink anything. Never getting nauseated or throwing up, only a severe pain between the tip of my sternum, and my belly button. It lasts about an hour and a half, then goes away. I am also gonna be scoped on monday to check for a stricture. Thats what I am hoping for... I know it sounds weird to hope for a stricture, but that will involve the smallest amount of down time. They can stretch it back open while they are scoping me, and I will be fine to go back to work the next day. My GI doc just put me on Prilosec OTC... so I know it is ok.... Hope you get to feeling better soon, Hugs, Susan

Hi Susan, I hope they find the problem and fix it. They didn't fix mine. My pain is not everyday but when I get it is horrible. I'm thinking is acid reflux. Hope you get better soon, Norma

Thanks Michelle. I'll definetly call my gastro and see what she thinks. She might give me Nexium again. Norma
