Stalled Big Time

Surgery was 12/21/04. All was great. Wt loss was great. About 6 mos out began to slow down, had lost about 65 lbs. Between June and October, only lost an additional 19 lbs. Total of 84 lbs. Since November, have gained 4 lbs. I have changed birth control pills and think that may be the source, but i am riding bike 20 min per day and am eating l000 - 1200 cal per day. My surgeon is not too concerned, but I feel like I should be loosing more than I am. I also seem sooo tired so much of the time. It is as though my body has shut down completely. Still experiencing hair loss. I do have problems getting in 80 grams of protein daily, but usually get in excess of 60. Im beginning to feel like I would pre-op. I would diet, loose and still diet and begin to gain. Any suggestions on what I can try?

How much did you have to lose to start with? Reason I ask is that the bigger you are the more you must shed, like in my case. I was at 338lbs morning of surgery and so of course I would have more to shed then someone at 238lbs. Taking your vitamins every day? How often do you eat? Most of us eat small meals throughout the day as we must keep our metabolism burning. I'm finding this hard to do but I go through stages of pigging out and then not wanting to eat. Did you see your surgeon for you yearly check up and have your blood tested? If not then do it!! Try upping your food in take and make sure you get your water in also. I'm very guilty of not getting enough water and the other day I was throwing up and then I went to sleep as I had to be at work by 10pm. When I woke up it felt like my whole mouth and tongue was burned, even my lips felt burned. I felt awful but once at work I started pushing the water into me and started feeling better. I went to long without my water, shame on me!! Donna 338/153

I wish I had a suggestion for you, but I'm in the same place. I've been stuck at this weight for 3 months. I still have 30-40 lbs to get to my goal weight. I was shrinking for awhile after the scale got to that -100 lb point, but that has stopped now, too. I'm still over 200 lbs. I usually get in around 100 g protein daily, and these days I feel like I have no clue what to eat since the scale isn't moving any more. I'm getting in 1200 calories daily, keeping to fruit and whole grain carbs along with my protein. I've been told by my surgeon that I should eat more than 1000 cal/day, but I should cut my protein to 50 g daily and not fill in the 200 calorie void with carbohydrates. I did the plateau breaker diet a month or so ago, stayed on for 6 of the 10 days, and lost NOTHING!!!! I've not had any hair loss since surgery beyond the normal losses I had before surgery. I've slacked off in taking my biotin and my sublingual B12, which I started before surgery. My labs have consistently been normal since surgery. I've been doing 30 minute circuit training 3-4 times per week since the first of the year, after decreasing my exercise due to my horrible schedule since last September. It does get my heart rate into that target zone, but I'm starting to think I should do the circuit twice to keep it in the zone longer. Good luck in finding a solution. I'm getting to be nutso with this plateau, Sue O.

Well at least I'm not alone. I am getting panicky. Admitting that I could not loose the wt on my own and that I needed gastric bypass surgery was an admission of defeat for me. So once the decision was made and all was going soooo well, to admit that I could only loose about 60% of my excess wt after surgery is yet another blow. Dont get me wrong. I'm grateful for the surgery and how I now feel. But I would just once like to be a total success in the wt loss department.
