Diet Soda?
Has anyone tried drinking sodas at all? I know I was told to NEVER have them again, but I really miss them! I do have an occasional sip, with no adverse effects, so I'm wondering about an occasional 1/2 cup now and then?

Confession time... Well, not really.... I have had an occassional soda since surgery. Probaly alot more early out than I have in say the last 8 months or so. I asked my doctor about it and he said as long as it was diet, and sat over ice to get most the bubbles out for about 20 minutes that it should be ok. I ABSOLUTELY cannot drink a soda from a can or bottle directly. I might have soda once a month... now, as for that confession.... I am mighty close to being an Icee addict... I have maybe one a week... but it doesn't have the same carbonation in it as a regular soda... the sugar doesn't seem tobother me either. I was a Pepsi-holic prior to surgery, and this gets me thru the rough parts....

Susan
My surgeon told me that I could drink diet soda after surgery if I could handle the bubbles. When I took my first sip at 6 weeks post-op, the bubbles hurt, so I stopped. I tried again at 3 months post-op, and it was fine. Now I belch a lot after each small drink, but that is fine. I used to be able to chug half a bottle at once, now I take small drinks through the day. A 24 oz bottle of decaf Diet Coke sits on my desk each day. By the end of the day, the bottle is flat and room temp, anyway, so the carbonation isn't a problem anymore. My consumption has changed from 4-6packs of 24 oz bottles each week pre-op to maybe 4-6packs in a month.
