Need some input....
Hey fellow "losers", I am hoping to get some input from you all on check ups and so forth. We are military and have moved yet again. I love my Primary care, but am not sure he is on top of what needs to be monitored from here on out. I have left messages for my surgeon, but haven't heard anything. My anniversary is 12/13 and so far I have lost 110 lbs. I exercise 5 days a week, eat good, have no issues except my flippin hair falling out! UGGGGG. What tests do you all have and how often? What should I be sure to have my new Dr. follow with me? I had some complictions following surgery (my lungs collapsed because of too much fluid build up in the my intestines and wound up with severed nerves on the left side), but the nerves are healing well, almost NO pain at all and the breathing is great. I have had an iron test done because I noticed that around my "monthly cycle" I bruise real easy and it takes a LONG time for them to go away and I feel lightheaded and sluggish. The results showed I was "mildly anemic" but Dr. was hesitant to put me on iron pills because too much can cause liver damage?? I am so confused! Can you all fill me in on what you get tested for and how often and if there are any 1 year post op tests I should have done?? Thanks as always!!

Glori,
Here is a link to a site that has some great information. The link takes you directly to the page on labs. It should be of some help to you.

I'm glad to hear that you are recovering well from your complications. I've never heard anything about iron and liver damage. For many wls doctors iron is standard protocal. You might want to get another opinion on that.
Best of luck,
Mary

Mary - Thanks for the link.
I have my annual check-up and labs on the 13th of December. Beginning in 2006, I have to transition my labs from my surgeon to my family physician. The list I received from that link will provide my physician with a starting point. I printed out the list, to take to my surgeon on the 13th.
My surgeon requires bloodwork every 6 months and a dexascan yearly. By 2006, I won't have to travel to New York, from Canada, to have this done.
Thanks
