Clothes.....
Hi everyone.....Here's an odd question. Maybe there are others out there like me.....I've lost 140 plus and am super happy. I must say I've been carbing way to much but I'm still loosing a couple of pounds here and there.
The whole time of the weight loss I refused to put out a lot of money for clothes, only to wear them for a month or so.. At first I shopped thrift shops and found some beautiful clothes. Then a little at a time I've done stores like Wallmart or Target. Now I'd like to get a few nice outfits but don't really know HOW to shop!! I'm 60 years old so boob showing is not a pleasent sight...... I know absolutly nothing about style, clothes for my age, and what would look good. I really need help!!!
I went to school yesterday to pick up the kids for Scouts and I saw one of the teachers I know... I looked at her clothes and actually said" I want to dress like you when I grow up!!!!" I laughed but it was true... She dressed just like I would like to.
I'm a size 8-10 now and I CAN wear nice clothes but I just don't know how.... I feel really stupid being 60 and not know how to pick out my own clothes. Love Ya, (((Hugs))) Judy
Hi, Judy!
I can understand your question. I'm 61, and I do love fashion. Always have. Here's what I suggest. Go to a department store -- not sure where Northfield Center, OH is, but you need to find a department store, or a store with sales associates who actually HELP you. Tell them your dilemma. They'll be more than happy to help you. Before you go, go through a fashion magazine (NOT one for teens!!) and tear out the pictures of the clothes that you like. Also, take some pics of the teacher whose look you admire. Take those to the store with you.
Also, check out BeautiControl.com. Find a consultant in your area who will do a color analysis for you and show you about fashion personality. I was a consultant for years (even fat) and helped women find their own style. The BeautiControl consultant won't charge anything for giving you the advice.
Good luck, Judy. And, WOW, what a great job you've done with your weight loss.

Hi Judy,
Believe it or not, I am addicted to a tv show on TLC called "What Not To Wear." It has taught me alot!!! I have been totally ignorant about fashion as well. Considering I have been over weight all of my adult life, it is not surprising that I don't know what will look good on my now slimmed down body. I am having to learn about sizing, my goodness, I didn't even understand how to buy underwear!!! After all the years shopping at Catherine's, The Avenue, and Lane Bryant, I have found a whole new scary world out there!
One of the things that has helped me is to try things on. I used to never try anything on at the store. I always brought things home. Now that we can be more picky about what we can buy, I find it better to try things on in the store and then let the sales people help with sizing, color etc. After all, they seem to pay alot more attention to me now! I might as well take advantage.
Most of all my advice to you is to have fun! I am! How great to actually look good in clothes! I am no longer buying things that will hide me!!!
Good luck!
Terri
