I'm past the onederland - matter of fact I hit -120 this morning and am 15 pounds from goal. I have found the two or three times I really really really stalled to do the following:
1. Cut out ALL (that is ALL) carbs except from green veggies-and very little of those (don't forget to continue your vitamins)
2. Do a liquid protein only day - drink drink drink
3. Exercise (I like to pop them headphones on and walk)
That seems to get the weight loss back going again. Carbs are my bane and I love them...I went on a cracker kick about 2 month ago and lost nothing (actually I played with the same 3 pounds up then down ) - it is amazing how quickly a bite here and a bite there adds up to too many calories/carbs/fat...I have stopped the crackers all together for a few days/weeks and the pounds have started coming down. The all liquid day gets me purged of the carbs and gets me back on track - just make sure you get your protein.
Protein....I have a 150 pound loss now and I agree wholeheartedly with Alice. Eat only protein if you can for a while to kickstart the loss. I snacked and still do on nuts and my nutritianist said that was a great thing to do. I do not drink any protein drinks and get protein from eating (obviously not enough though). I think the South Beach diet is a great maintainance diet for WLS - just my opinion though. I am going to try it starting my one year anniversary.
Exercise...(blushing)....I don't and haven't. Just can't get it into my day. I know I would be more toned now if I did.
Water...I keep water bottles in my freezer half full with frozen water, top one off with water before I leave for work and make sure I drink it often during the day.
Vitamins...take them throughout the day one at a time until they are gone. I keep them in a container I carry with me so I know how many more I need to take.
In general...I just don't eat much and had a very fast weight loss so perhaps you shouldn't listen to me as it seems that slow would be healthier.
Great topic and I look forward to reading other's responses. Thanks for asking Vera!
Vera,
Hey all - down 116 pounds now - 10 pounds to goal.
I eat a lot of grilled fish, shrimp, scallops, rotissarie chicken. Eat fresh vegetables and fruit. I do not eat ANY bread or pasta. If I want pasta I use spaghetti squash instead - has lots of fiber too. I drink at least 60 oz of pure water everyday, 20 oz of ff milk, 20 oz of anything else I want as long as it is sugar free or low sugar, and caffine free. 100 oz of liquid. I always eat three bites of protein to one bite of vegetables. I end each meal with about 1 oe 2 bites of a fresh fruit.
When I snack - and I do get the urge to snack - I play a game with myself that I can have that snack - after I drink another 16 oz of water. Afterwards, if I still feel the need for a snack I will eat a power crunch bar, nuts, fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese, string cheese, stallone pudding.
If I just have to fill a carb urge I will eat one of the 100 cal packages of South beach diet whole wheat snack crackers.
I also found that I can keep my body losing by changing up my habits. change your workout, if you always have the same breakfast - change it. If you always do 1200 calories - one day do 900. If I keep my body guessing - it can't get in a rutt - and neither do I.
I do need to do better with exercize. I was in the gym at least an hour a day 7 days a wee****il summer - since then I haven't been back - but I have been more active. Walked all over Gatlinburg this weekend, all over the neighborhood other days, you get the idea. Sometimes if I don't feel like going to the gym and it's cold out I'll run up and down the stairs at the house. Sometimes I don't do anything... tee hee.....just do what you can.
