Exercise

So, I was wondering what everyone is doing for exercise? I think most of us are reaching a point where the weight loss is slowing down, the appetite is coming back and we are starting to worry about old habits returning (not to mention gaining weight ) Is anyone interested in joining an Exercise Challenge? I be happy to start the post. Maybe we could get weekly goals? I've been trying to exercise lots! My husband and I go to the gym and do weight training and some sort of aerobic exercise. I am also staring to jog (actually walk/jog). I've signed up for a running program that starts in late September. At the end of the program there is a 10k run in Central Park. So, what is everyone else doing? Mary 302/202/1??

I am a member of the gym at work. I do 20 minutes treadmill and 20 minutes stationary bike on my lunch, 5 days a week. At home, I have 3 and 5 pound weights and a resist-a-ball. I do some programmed exercises with the weights and the ball, designed to reduce the flab of my upper arms and to strengthen some problem muscles in my lower back. I also have a pool and hot tub, so I swim laps almost every day. My weekend exercise is not as busy. This time of year, I have the pool, but come September, I will need to add some additional weekend exercise. I am thinking of moving up to Intermediate Belly Dancing. I completed the beginner Belly Dancing between March and June of this year. If they offer intermediate in the fall, I will probably take that. I try not to run / jog too much, as I have osteoarthitis in my knees. Karen G 294 / 208 / 1??? and stuck for 4 weeks now.... yikes Toronto, On, Canada

Karen, Wow - you are really doing great with your exercise. Belly Dancing sounds like lots of fun. Keep up the good work. Before you know it you will break through that rotten plateau you are on! Mary 302/202/1??

I walk 5 miles a day, 7 days a week -- before I go to work on the weekdays and in the morning on the weekends. I live in Phoenix so I walk from 4:30 to 6:15 everyday to keep in front of the heat. I do light weight training at home everyday too. I also swim when time permits. I guess overall I'm exercising throughout the day whenever I have an opportunity.

Debbie, 7 days a week - you are really dedicated! I do go to workout 4-5 times per week! I'm impressed. Mary 302/202/1??

OK... my time to fess up..... Ever since last March when I fell and broke my foot, and then my little one ended up in the hospital, I have not excercised, but a little riding my recumbant air bike at home, which was rare, and just started on my Ab-Lounger. However, since school started back last week, I got back to the gym this week... And while my little ol' mile I walked on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday pales in comparison to some of your excercise routines (add my weight lifting to that walk as well) I have gotten back into some excercising. And I am proud of myself for that. Hopefully it will kick start my weight loss again, and I can finally get this last 32 lbs off. Once I can build up some endurance, I will progress it on some more... I must say though... It was nice to walk the 12 laps that it takes to make a mile at my gym, and I wasn't out of breath or anything, so I have been adding an extra lap each day. I will get there... I am making myself go everyday. It was easy there for awhile to talk myself out of it for whatever reason I could conjure up in my brain, but it finally was time.... Susan

Susan, Congratulations on getting back to the gym. It is so hard to get started again after stopping so you deserve a lot of credit. Mary 302/202/1??

Mary, I think an exercise challenge is a great idea. I'm ashamed to say it that I have kind of slacked off also and really need to get back on track. So I'm in for this. I actually been walking on the treadmill this week trying to get back on track and now I know I have to . I also have about 32 lbs. left and really want to get them off. So let's go December crew, lets get this weight off once and for all. Take care, Loni

Loni, I'm glad you are on board. It is so hard to get started, but once you build up some momentum it does it easier. Mary 302/202/1??

I have a Nordic Track which I use for an hour each weekday AM. I swim for 90 minutes each weekend day. It seems that I need a day off each week and take it on the AM that my body tells me it needs a rest day. Angie 302/195
