Watch DHC's Trash Can of Skin, August 7th at 10 pm
Last night, on the Discovery Health Channel, I caught a show called "Trash Can of Skin". It was the story of a British woman who lost over 22 stone, which I believe was close to 200 pounds. She was still quite heavy (230-240 pounds) and she was undergoing plastic surgery. In the show, she had liposuction on her chin in Britain, then she travelled to Kansas for a circumferential full body lift. They filmed the operation, which lasted 12 hours !!!
WOW. What an extreme plastic surgery. They removed 32 pounds of lipid and flesh during the procedure, which combined liposuction of her thighs with a complete body lift. The recovery was a difficult one. It was days before she could sit up and it was a full six months before the incisions fully closed, due to complications with her wounds. Overall, the scars healed well and her progress was good.
The same woman had already had her arms lifted and she was planning to return to the United States for a breast lift and a thigh lift.
What I found remarkable, was that she was still quite heavy. I have looked into plastic surgery and was told not to pursue it until I lost all the weight that I want to lose. The surgeon told me that plastic surgery is not intended to be used as a method of losing weight.
Did anyone else catch this show? What did you think of the surgery? Are you considering any plastics at this point? I am definately hoping to afford at least a breast lift. (If I can ever get close to goal)

The slow loser
Hi karen,
From one slow loser to another. We are going to be OK! I saw that program and could not believe that. She looked like she was in a whole lot of pain after the surgery. I thought about getting something like that done, but my skin is just not hanging that bad. so far so good. Not a whole lot of loose skin. Maybe its because I am losing so slow. I would reccommend all WLS patients to watch this. Its incredible what can be done these days with plastic surgery. Take care!
I saw this program too. She was a big lady (still after the weight loss). I am considering plastic surgery...I have so much extra skin. I am 20 pounds from my goal. I had my surgery 12/6/04 and the surgeon said that at my next appointment we can begin to talk about it. He really wants me exercise and try to tone up as much as possible. I am not really faithful with the exercise...I need to get with it.
But I do want new boobies and a new butt!!! Maybe a will bring me some?
I agree that all wls patients should watch this.

Hello sweet Karen from another slow loser Monica.
Yes, I watched this show a few times, I found it so amazing. Now days there are many plastic surgeons who perform this radical life changing surgery. I watch Dr.90210 and other cable programs that show circumvental abdominalplasticies or total lower body lifts and total upper body lifts. I saw one surgery where there were 3 separate surgeons working on the same patient at the same time to keep the operating time to a minimum. Great idea, the women has a lower and upper body lift all around, new breasts, arms done and a face lift. The results were so amazing. She was in great pain for quite a few days, but they controlled her pain and she said she's do it again in a second.
I too wondered why this British women was still large, but hey she was a trulys successful WLS patient and one of the first to try this dramatic surgery for skin removal and body shaping.
I am still at my plateau with a total body loss of -98 lbs. I know that I am melting and am smaller, but I need to have that weight below 200 lbs. I also need to achieve the century club. Good luck and continued success.
Monica
WOW Monica....98 pounds is great. You will soon be in the Century Club. I am stuck at only 86 pounds gone. I am hoping to reach goal next spring, because I really want to have a breast lift. That is why I am watching more and more plastic surgery shows. I am working out to tone my arms and my abs, but no amount of exercise will put my breasts back where they belong. LOL. So, god willing, I really hope to lose another 60 pounds over the next 8 months.

I did not see the show but I can not wait to have my skin off. I am down 120 lbs. and having urinary problems with the excess skin along with my abdomin and breast problems I have had all my life. I'm jumping through the hoops now with my insurance for a "panniculectomy" . I want my breasts done too but I don't know if they will cover it.
