Donna, If you look at your BMI - 145 would put you in the normal range. My nutritionist said to shot for a BMI less than 30 - which would be below 175 for you. I don't have a goal weight either. I do have a goal size - I'd like to be a 10. I don't know if that is realistic or not - I'm waiting to see where this journey takes me. Mary 302/208/1??

Hi Donna, When I asked my surgeon for a goal weight he said he doesn't give goal weights... This kinda shocked me, because everyone who I knew personally that had WLS had a goal given to them from their surgeons. My surgeons goal was for me to lose 70% of my excess weight. Which I have done, and he is happy with my loss. However I am not happy where I am yet. So I then asked my surgeon what was the average (textbook) weight for my height. I am 5'11", and textbook weight is 165 lbs. I am striving for 155 if I can get there. It'll be 10 lbs below average, and give me those 10 lbs to play with. I saw something the other day that I didn't understand. Someone had posted their goal weight as 200lbs. This was a female. I know I could be weird or something, but I didn't have this surgery to still be over weight. I understand that 200 lbs for some people could be a weight loss of 200 or more lbs, and that would be fantastic. But who wouldn't want to be at a normal BMI after going thru all this. And to weigh 200 lbs for most females would still be considered overweight. I don't remember where I saw this goal weight listed on here, and if it was any of our Decemeber crew, I apologize in advance.... But, while it would be a much healthier weight, I can understnad not wanting to be at an overweight BMI. The more I think about it, maybe it was an attainable goal that could be changed later. Please don't flame me!!!! Susan Lap RNY 12-1-04 285-189-155 ( Still stuck at -96)

I saw that too, Susan and had the same thoughts. But, maybe this is where they will be comfortable at. And once they hit 200, maybe they will change the goal...kinda like a pre goal goal??? Hope you're not yet! Cheryl

I think it depends on how tall you are so she might be as tall as you but big boned. I started off at 338lbs and I'm down to 201lbs. My girlfriend who is 200lb herself told me I look fine at 201lbs yet her PCP told her she needs to lose weight and get down to 150lb so go figure In all honesty I don't think she wants me to get below her with my weight. I am 5"4" and medium build also. I am 52 years old. I started at 301 pounds and my surgeon put my goal weight at 145 lbs. I was thinking myself that maybe I can get down to 130-135. It all depends on how I look and how I feel at 145 lbs. Like being overweight, I don't think being too thin is attractive either. It also depends upon by body -- maybe my body will decide to level off and not lose anymore after 145 lbs. In the past, I have always made my goal weight unrealistic at 120 pounds. I don't want to do that anymore. It is no fun when you keep trying to lose and eating right and exercising, but the scale stays put, or I lose a couple pounds and eat one thing and it shows a two-pound gain. When are bodies are done losing, they are done losing. My main focus is to be healthy for the rest of my life.

I'm shooting for about 140 to 145lbs as I know I looked good at 165lbs a few years back. Donna 338/201 -137
