I just stopped losing weight a couple of weeks ago. I'm down about 70 lbs in 6 mos., which my doctor said would be considered a good result after a year. I'm just afraid my body has decided that this is a good place for me, and stopped. What did other people who experienced plateaus do? Did you make radical changes to break them, or did they just break on their own? How long did that take? Are you still losing as quickly as you were before the plateau? I'm still following all the rules, protein, vitamins, etc., although I've decided to change my exercise from the treadmill to Curves. Anything else I should do? Jumping jacks? grapefruit diet? electroshock therapy?

Hey Chunky Frog, My doctor says that when you plateau for awhile it is probably at a weight you were sometime in your life for a long time. I just got over a 4 week plateau and have lost 2 pounds in the past 2 days. I'm now down 121 lbs. Be patient. Larry

Like Larry said, be patient. Give your body time to adjust and start losing again. Donna 338/211 -127

I've ben having frequent stalls ever since I had surgery. For the last several months, my losses have been 3 lbs every 3 or 4 weeks. The last drop was 2 lbs after 4 weeks. I still have 50-70 lbs to reach my goal. You might try varying your exercise routine to include more activities. If you only do one thing, your muscles get accustomed to that type of movement and get very efficient at doing it. Varying the routine varys the muscle usage. I've never been to Curves, but I've heard that some people say that it was good when they were starting out in exercise but wasn't challenging enough after they'd been at it awhile. I've also tried to vary the number of calories that I take in so that my metabolism doesn't know what to expect and go into hibernation. I add things like 100% whole grains and low glycemic load fruits into the menu for a week or two, to bump my calories up to 1000, then the next week I'll take those things out and go back to protein and green veggies. I'm a slow loser, however, also hypothyroid, so nothing has really made my metabolism rush ahead. It is really weird. The week that I lose pounds, it feels like I've had a metabolism transplant. I feel empty, like I'm really using up the food I'm consuming. The rest of the time, no matter what I take in, the food just seems to sit there and I don't have that empty feeling. I've not found anything to sustain that "up" feeling for all time. Good luck, Sue O.

I'm at my 2nd plateau. It's hard to comprehend that our weight will still keep coming off. I feel the same as you. At first it was 20lbs a month. Now it's 3lbs a month. I am paranoid to start gaining just like all the diets before. I do curves , but now I have to push myself twice as hard to get my heart rate up. I know it's good for my heart. My MD still says I'll lose 50 more lbs. I really do not believe them. I still see myself (in the mirror) as big as I was before surgery. Good Luck Tammy Lowery 300/272/198/?
