Calorie Question

Hey folks. Just wondered how everyone is doing and thought I would stop in and say hello. First I want to rave about the South Beach diet wraps! It's like a lunchable for adults... it's a little kit with two wraps and a little sugar free jello. It's awesome and has 22 grams of protein for the whole package (about two meals for me). Second I want to say that my weight loss has slowed a lot and I don't like it! Schools out now (I took my last final today) so I'm going to have lots of free time for more exercise! Also I work at a summer camp so I'm bound to get tons of exercise there. My third question is how many calories I should be eating. Today so far I've had 787 calories and I got in my protein goal. I'm still a little hungry now and I'm wondering how many calories I should have for the day? When I asked my nutritionist she said she would rather not say how many calories i needed as long as I get my protein in, but I need a number! thanks for the help, and congratulations everyone!

Hi Brooke... My surgeon says that I should be getting between 1000-1200 calories per day. I do good most days to get in between 800-900. The days when I get in 1200 is when I have gone a little carb crazy. I have also found that I like the South Beach meals in the freezer section. They are loaded with protien, and pretty darn tasty at that. And what makes them better is they aren't really all that expensive either. The ones I have gotten at Walmart were about $2.38. That is less than what I would have to spend at work for lunch. Hmmmm.... reminder to self.... go get some more of those for lunches at work...... Susan Lap RNY 12-1-04 285-204-155 (-81)

I just had half of one of the beef and broccoli freezer ones... it filled me up and was loaded with protein. I'm not too fond of the sauce but it was definately a quality frozen meal... I'm going to try the other kinds!! Thanks for the info about the calories!

Hi Brooke, happy that the finals are over for you. You will have a great summer. My nutritionist and weight management doctors want me to have 1000-1200 calories a day, everyday. I must take in 70-90 grms protein and at least 100 grms carb to insure that I have a steady weight loss and do not rob my body of too much good muscle mass with severe anemia later on. I try hard to fulfill my daily requirements. I find that FitDay.com is a wonderful free tool to help me track my intake. This website may take a little to get it customized to your familiar foods, but once you enter the information it stores it and is easy to pull up and enter. Continued good luck women. Monica

I've been using fit day since the beginning! Isn't it great?! When I go to camp I'm not going to have that luxury, but luckily yesterday when I was at Wal-mart there was a lady there promoting the south beach diet stuff and she was passing out free food journals... so I'm probably going to be using that at camp!! Thanks for the well wishes and calorie information!

Brooke, I usually get in 700-900. It is very rare that I make it up to 1000. I have tried a couple of times, but usually just feel bad if I consume too much. I do not count protein. My doctor has not stressed protein to much to me. He wants me to get protein, but also wants to make sure I am getting some vegetables. So I would say..... just listed to your Nutritionist. At this point I don't think any of the doctors really want us counting calories. Do not worry about a slow down in the weight loss. I have been loosing very slow reciently. Sometimes I loose 1-2 lbs a week or sometimes I loose 3-6 lbs a week. I usually weigh only on fridays... however this week I have been anal retentive and have weighed several times. On Friday I weighed in at 241, this morning I weighed in at 235. Therefore already this week I have lost 6 lbs, and hopefully will loose at least two more this week. BTW I lost all this with attending 3 parties this weekend and eating crap!!!!! A very wise person told me that sometimes our bodies need to catch up with our weight loss. Also we need to be prepared to have a slow down from the honey moon stage. Jane 329/241 -88 lbs 12/6/04

Thanks for the encouragement! I think that I'm going to make my calorie goal between 800-1000. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who is slowing down.. BUT I STILL DONT LIKE IT heheheh thanks for the info Brooke

Hi Brooke, I exercise between an hour or two, 7 days a week so my nutritionist told me 1200 - 1400 per day. I usually burn up at least 1/2 of my calories through exercise. I try for 70 grams of protein a day but my nutritionist says to try for 100 grams of protein. I think it depends on what makes you feel good and keeps you losing weight, of course medical advise is the best advise. Glad your finals are over and that you will have the summer off. Don't worry about the slow down, the others here are right when they say sometimes our bodies have to play catch up. When your not losing much try and measure yourself because I bet even when you are on a plateau you are still losing inches. Have a great and happy summer.
