I had my wls on 12-13-04
I had my wls on 12-13-04 i weighted 269 today I weight 204 I was hoping to be under 200 but I haven't lost anything in 2 weeks or longer. I have started to add some veggies and i was wondering if that could make me at a stand still my doctor wants my on only protien until I lose 75% of my weight that I need to lose my goal is 128 how long dose this last the stand still and dose eating veggies instead of 100 % protien will make you stop your weight loss??? I feel like I have failed this even with the wls
Your weight loss is on par with others in the same time frame. Each person looses at their own rate, but there is a common range and you are well within that range. Some "plateaus" are necessary. Your body (particularly your skin) needs some time to catch up with the weight loss. This is normal.
I eat all foods, including vegetables. I had surgery around the same time as you and my surgeon transitioned me to full foods by March 1st. I eat fruits and vegetables, as well as some carbs, along with my protein. However, I eat my protein first and the other foods after. I have never been instructed to eat 100% protein. I monitor my intake on Fitday.com and my goal is a minimum of 80 grams of protein per day. I also try to keep my calories below 1200 per day.
I wish I was below 200, too. Patience and in time, I know it will happen. We are not failures, we are works-in-process....soon to be Successes. !!!

Shirley,
Your doing great. We are about the same place. I started at 266. My wls date was 12/15/04. I just now got to 198. I've been eating good vegetables for several months now. I eat good protein (a lot of grilled or broiled fish/shrimp), salads, steamed or grilled vegetables. I just stay away from pasta's, potatos, and breads. But the best answer is follow you doctors instructions. However, vegetables are good for your body- they are the good carbs that we need. It hasn't stopped the weight loss. I think our weight loss just naturally slows down after the first two months - it needs a break after losing that much at once. Your doing fantastic - keep up the good work!

Candy

I too had the LAP RNY on 12-13-04. I started at 301 and weighed 203 this morning. I make sure I get my protein in everyday, but do eat vegetables and oatmeal, rice, and even potato. Not on the same day, but I have eaten them. I just keep my calories between 800 and 1200 a day. My weight loss was a little slow at first, but has really picked up since I walk for an hour before I get ready for work in the morning, and walk every chance I get. I walk for a total of at least 2 hours a day. On weekends I walk for 2 hours straight and then throughout the day I just try to walk as much as possible. I religiously take my vitamins and my thyroid medication because I have hypothyroidism. I was at 220 for about 3-4 weeks and just kept doing the same thing I have been doing and then overnight I lost 5 pounds, the next day or so another 5 pounds, a couple more days another 5 pounds -- thus, 15 pounds in a week. Don't sweat -- it will come off, just keep doing what you're doing. I am 52 years old, have hypothyroidism, and I am post-menopausal. If I can do it, anyone can do it! I'm serious! It hasn't even been 6 months yet -- we have the rest of our lives to work on this. I'm sure we will both get to our goal weights and then spend the rest of our lives maintaining that goal. Sounds like a plan to me. Have a great day!
I had a rouen y (however you spell it) on either the 13th or 14th of december. My loss is at about 150 lbs right now so far. I have been told to slow up because you get nerve damage in feet and hands if too fast. My doctor says I have been his fastest loser. However, here is the good part for you. Number one, your loss rate depends on many factors like how much total loss do you need. In other words someone like me who was bigger than you will lose more weight faster than you. Every surgeon makes the pouch different size. No two are exactly alike. Our bodies all respond differently. The hope I can offer you is that you are on par with most. Your loss is substantial. When was the last time you were able to diet off 65 lbs? So just think positive. You are in good shape at a good rate that will limit other problems or complications. Hope this helps your spirits. If you have access to support groups go there and get more encouragement. Keep up the good work!
