Hair Loss/Shampoo Therapy Help
I am interested in reading what you have to say about hair loss, treatments, shampoos, hair cuts during hair loss (go short or stay long). I have medium to thick shoulder lenght hair and my pony tail is about 1/3 less in diameter now that I have been experiencing hair loss for 3 weeks. I started losing hair at 3 mths and 3 weeks post op. I have lost 60+ lbs. Any interesting storys or observation from your experiences?

I too was told that there was nothing you can do to reverse or slow the process. I take Biotin and I cut about 6 inches off my length. I have noticed it (the loss) is slowing down in the past two weeks. Some new growth has started, but they look like little fly-away wispy hairs. Guess it will take time for the hair to look right.

Sally,
I have naturally very fine hair so it always looks thin. I started losing about 1 month ago. I started using Nioxin shampoo before my surgery to limit the loss. I don't think I've lost as much as most have. But I am very think on top in front. I cut my hair to shoulder length and added layers. That way it wouldn't be so heavy and hopefully fall out less.
It's worth it though! Your hair looks very cute in your picture BTW!

Yes, the issue of hair loss. My loss is finally slowed down. I began loosing the hair the beginning of March. Slow to start and then it seemed like the hair ws speeding out of my head. Went to the hair dressers and we came up with a plan to cut my shoulder lenght hair to releave the weight of my thick, curly hair on the root. Love the new layered cut, feel younger. I purchased two products that I really love using. One is Frekkar, I ordered it from Sephora.com. I use this daily as a moisture treatment and control cream. Very good, olive oil based. I gently work it through my hair and scalp. I also purchased from Avon, another olive oil product, a hair mask. I use this once a week. After I wash my hair and gently towel off the excess water, I massage this into my hair and scalp. Leaving it on for 15-30 minutes then rinse it out. Fabulous. I will continue to use these products on my hair forever.
My loss has slowed down dramaticly. I am thankful for that. Lots of new growth all over my head. My hair dresser is very pleased.
At a support meeting last month, we discussed the hair loss we go through and my doctors said that we all will experience some loss no matter what. We all have to ride it out and it will stop.
Hang in there.

TO ME IT FEELS LIKE THE SCALP IS STARTING TO SHOW ... BUT THEN MY HUSBAND SAYS I WORRY ABOUT IT... SO WHO KNOWS... YES IT WILL GROW BACK... I HAVE ALWAYS HAD THICK HAIR... SO THIS IS DIFFERENT FOR ME..

girl! my hair started falling out about a month ago- very say. so, i wash my hair once probably every 4/5 days. i still do everything normal like i did before (i don't want my life changing too much because of this surgery) i still scrunch it, gel it, and straighten it. if i straighten it, i can go even longer without washing it. it's alittle depressing with how much hair comes out but i guess we just have to deal with it. i started protein and take biotin (per my doctors advice) but i think we just have to wait for our bodies to adjust.... good luck sue
