Diet Sodas yes or no?
My Dr. does not allow carbonated drinks. Can anyone tell me why this would be or if they have had any ill effects with drinks?
For those of you who flame....I'm already aware that you SHOULD follow all of your Dr.'s suggestions and now that we've gotten that out of the way, I'm open to your suggestions.
Thanks
I was told the carbonation causes excess gas and could add pressure
to your staple line and cause discomfort. Also caffefine increases your
appetite and cuases you to want to eat more! I drink crystal lite.I
love the raspberry flavor.I buy those single serving packets that you can
just add to a 20oz.bottle of water. Also minute maid has a low cal.
lemonade that is delicious! Plus I have a best friend who lectures me
about drinking "that poison" so I say NO SODA! Good Luck!

My doctor says diet sods are ok if you let them sit out and get out the carbonation. I have taken a few sips before the carbonation was totally out and it kinda made me feel really bloated for a while. So I can't imagine drinking soda with all the carbonation, it would probably make me feel really yucky.

My Dr says as long as you put them over ice and let them set for about 20 minutes, they are ok. I rarely drink one, but ever now and then it just cures what ails me..... A 2L bottle of soda usually gets thrown out before I can drink it all. And I have found I really like Diet A&W Rootbeer.
And like you said, I don't need the flaming, I drink a minimum of 80-100 oz of liquids a day... mostly CL Sunriser. But I do like that occasional soda every now and then.

I don't allow myself diet sodas or any carbonated beverages. My Doctor allows diet sodas, after 3 months, but I chose not to consume anything carbonated, as I have read of complications caused by consuming carbonated beverages after this surgery. (RNY) The carbonation can cause excess gas, which can result in staple line disruptions or even various intestinal problems.
If you chose to drink carbonated beverages, please pour the beverage in a glass, to release some of the carbonation. Take precautions to prevent excess gas.

My doctor said if I could handle the carbonation, then I could drink it. I couldn't tolerate the bubbles until I was more than 3 months post-op. It makes me burp a lot and sometimes toot. I ate something yesterday that irritated by pouch, so I'm a bit tender down there today. The bubbles weren't comfortable today, so I'm drinking only water.
It is very easy to fall back into drinking it constantly (like I did before surgery) so I make myself "earn" one bottle of decaf diet coke by drinking a 32 oz bottle of water.

I had my first caffeine free sf diet coke 2 weeks ago. I was really missing and craving a cold diet coke so I decided to give it a try. I found that what I was missing was not that great after all. I guess I missed the big glup or glups that I used to take, the feeling of the liquid with those fun bubbles going in my mouth and down my throat. I can no longer glup so even though I had the soda, the feeling I remembered was gone. I have allowed myself diet coke 2 times more. I have a very small can, let the bubbles go and gently sip the soda for a long time. I realize that I enjoy my water so much more....who would have thunk! I find that by allowing myself the soda I crushed a craving and that is good.
Now lets talk about Margaretas.....yes I have had a few. I have them over ice, lots of ice. I sip them very slowly and have yet to finish one. But the taste and the unusal "alcohol" buzz is delicious. I would like to try a beer but realize I would find the same problem as with a diet soda. The ability to glup the beer is gone. But a nice cold Corona after working up a sweat was always a delicious treat. Being 70 less is also a delicious treat.
