Ok guys and gals, I need help. I have been taking "Nectar" Fuzzy Navel protein drink and at first I loved it, but now after a few forced swallows I want to Now I need something different, I've tried unjury plain but can taste it. I'm tired of spending money and then wasting the powder after using it for a few weeks. What about mixing some fruit in a blendor with protin powder? I know I should maybe order the sampler from bariatriceating but is it expensive? Ok everyone please help me with some ideas. Love You All, Kelly

I use the Whey Coolers from WalMart. They are inexpensive and they taste okay. I am 4 months out and get most of my protein from food now, but sometimes, I return to the basics and still enjoy the occassional protein drink. I also have vanilla and chocolate whey powder, which I use to make s/f milkshakes with low fat milk, s/f ice cream and whey powder. Sometimes I add two tablespoons of peanut butter too. With the Whey Coolers, they mix nice in the blender with fresh fruit. Experiment and have fun. Karen G

Hi Kelly, Do order some samples from Bariaticeating, it is an way inexpensive way to try protein before buying the big tub. You get enough for a full size shake or drink. When I wasn't sure I liked a particular drink, I would order the same sample again. My favorites are: Proplete Gold Pineapple Vanilla, using Crystal Light Sunrise Orange instead of water for the base, with a shake of cinnamon and a cup of crushed ice. Reminds me of The Orange Julius drinks from the mall. Another favorite is IDS Vanilla Cinnamon, sort of like snow cream. Elite's Rich Chocolate is good. My "exotic" drink is Nectar's Crystal Sky with the wild blue color, good on a hot day! Or watching Elvis in Blue Hawaii! LOL I mix all of these up in my Magic Bullett with ice. Thick as I want it with ice. Another place to try samples is valleynutrition.com for $1.50 each, no shipping cost. Good luck, Emily

Optisource also makes a protein supplement for bariatric patients, you order it from walgreens.com. It comes in caramel and strawberry flavors. I've tried both and they are good. They come premixed in a 8-oz juicebox. The box contains 24 g protein, 12 g carb (probably why it tastes so good). From bariatric eating.com I also like the Elite chocolate mint and the plain chocolate (I'm a chocolate nut). The elite berry and orange flavors are OK, too. I like all the nectar flavors, too. The Matrix chocolate is good, too. I first tried all of these in the sampler pack that I ordered. The cool metal shaker that also came with the sampler pack looks like a martini shaker -- I love the looks I get when I walk down the hallway at work holding that in my hand. The sampler pack comes with either a metal shaker or a plastic shaker, I think both were under $30.00. I've mixed vanilla protein powder with Carb Countdown orange juice or with SF orange koolaid. I don't mix a bunch of stuff with my protein, but I think there may be recipes in the recipe file. I've seen posts on the main message board where people said that they had posted their protein shake recipes there. http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/member-interests/cooking_baking/posts.html One thing that I've discovered about consuming the protein shakes is that they taste better if you don't smell them. Hold your breath when you are drinking and they go down better. Also, you're farther out now and your stoma is well healed, so you can take bigger gulps at one time. Good luck-- Sue O.

I hope that you will give the Unjury CHOCOLATE a try. It's delicious ... no need to hold your nose while you drink it! It's great as is in milk, or with some banana or coffee added.

Kelly, I feel the same way as you. I just can't swallow them. I've bought so many and the first few sips seem okay. Then I immediately can't swallow another sip. Just the thought of it gets to me. Everything tastes metallic and feels thick and heavy. Yuck! I've got a pantry full of the stuff. Bottles, tubs, packets, bars, powders.. all of it makes my stomach churl at the thought! I keep hearing others rave about how good their favorites are, and I'm locating it, buying some and toss them out cuz they are HORRIBLE. I need a miracle. I can't get enough protein in to save my life. I'm up for any suggestions, too. Karen - 74 lbs

I use AdvantEdge Whey Protein Chocolate flavored powder from Wal-Mart. I mix up 12 oz. at a time, then pour 4 oz. into 3 containers. I put those in the fridge. In the morning on my way to work I drink one. It isn't so much that I feel like I am going to hurl. I tried 8oz. but found I wasted 4 of them. The rest of my protein comes from food during the day.
