My lap rny was 12-20-04. I have noticed a bit of hair loss this week. I wonder if this is just my normal change of season hair loss or if it is connected with the surgery. So I thought I'd ask you all if you are noticing extra shedding of hair. I have lost 40 lbs. 243/203/135

I haven't lost any hair thus far. "Knock on wood." I don't know why some people lose their hair and others do not. A friend of mine has another friend who had gastric bypass in October 2004. She wears a wig because she has lost all of her hair. I believe she has worn the wig for a couple months already. No fear though, from what I understand, her hair will come back nicer and maybe thicker than before. Best of luck.

I've not lost any more than I normally do as yet. I don't have that much to lose (hair, that is). I've lost 33 lbs since surgery, 70 since last August. My brother the doctor told me that hair loss was inevitable due to the fact of having major abdominal surgery. Some on OH have said it is due to the anesthesia. Others due to the lack of protein intake after surgery. I don't know the true answer. I started taking biotin before surgery, still taking it. I'm back to taking the same vitamins I was on before surgery, which contain a lot of everything--so didn't think I needed to add "hair" vitamins. I got my protein consumption up to desired levels as fast as I could after surgery, so I was at 80 grams by my 1 month date. I don't know if any of my efforts will pay off. I'm still waiting. Sue O.

Hair Loss is Very Possible. OUr bodies had major surgery. SHOCK! We all lose about 100 hairs a day! Some might not see hair loss, then again its' only 3 month post-op. It can start anywhere from 2 months up to 9 months. Depending. I've seen on here people talk about hairloss and how other's don't. Usually it's that they DON'T notice the hairloss because its so few. Other's SHED like crazy and therefore you do notice. Taking Biotin (Which I do) Will NOT prevent it. Whether you've been taking it for years, months or weeks. It CAN minimize it and slow it down, but will not DETER it from falling. Again, Hair will grow back . Keep your protein intake high and keep taking your vitamins and depending on your body, it can minimize. Take Care All, Gracie

Yes, I'm shedding. Thankfully, I have really thick hair.. and no one has noticed the hair loss .. except me. My brush is full of hair every morning!

I too have started shedding. I am using a sulpher product to help with hair growth and minimize loss. This is very depressing to me. My hair has always been my pride and joy.

YES! At almost EXACTLY 3 months as predicted by my doc. I have started taking BIOTIN supplements. (in pill form) I have very thin hair, but LOTS OF IT, so it's not yet noticable. But beware when I run my hands through my hair in the shower each morning. I will let y'all know if the Biotin helps! Best, Elisha 219/177.5/???
