Pain Pain Pain
Hey everyone, it's been a while since I have posted. Things seemed to be going okay and that pain I had in the left side was getting better, then about 3 weeks ago I rolled over in bed and YOUCH!!!!!! Something "ripped" and "burned" so bad I woke up screaming. Well, it's been this long and it's not getting any better. Of course I went to the Dr. and he said, "give it time, it's either a hernia or neuropathy". I went back for my follow up Thursday, and was told that nerves were cut during the surgery and for some reason, when I turned over in bed, they ripped again and there is nothing they can do. He said no pain medication would help and I just have wait it out. Well, after another 4 days of not being able to lay flat on my back to sleep, turn over, get up from sitting, sit too long, bend, or twist......I have had enough! I am frustrated that this pain won't go away! I have been taking it easy, and "waiting it out", but this is horrible! Has anyone else had this? What should I do? I have tried heat, cold, alternating heat and cold and ah yes.... my doctors brilliant idea..... to put BenGay on the opposide of my belly to "fool" my brain into concentrating on the BenGay and not the torn nerves....... don't waste the money, it doesn't work.... I've tried to look up abdominal neuropathy and I keep getting diabetes and/or foot information.... neither of which apply...... any advice would be great. OH, surgery was 12/13/04 RNY Lap. Only one major complication post op (lungs collapsed one day after surgery)..... Please help....

Hi Glori. Sorry to hear about your pain. I had the same thing happen to me about 2 1/2 weeks postop. It was AWFUL! My doctor prescribed "Neurotin", which is supposed to help with neuropathy. I can't say that it helped me dramatically, but my pain was bad enough that I was ready to try anything. . .
I wish you luck. Ask your dr. about that med. Hope it helps!
Hugs,
Audrey

I had bad pain on my left side that had me screaming out trying to lie in bed or get up. My doctor wouldn't give me anything for it either, said tylenol and a heating pad. None of this worked. I know I wasn't suppose to take Motrin but I did and no relief with that. What finally worked for me was....are you ready for this? MIDOL! I couldn't believe it! I got them from my girlfriend and it started working immediately! If you're as desperate as I was at the time you might try this.
