WLS patient vs Flu - Flu winning???
I feel like I've been hit by a Mac truck! I can't remember ever feeling this ill. My temp is 102. My doctor says I can only take Tylenol products. I'm taking liquid Tylenol but it's not working well. I'm also sipping on chicken soup.
My Go, this has to be the worse strain of flu that has ever hit this country. I don't mean to sound like a whinner, I'm just looking for advise.
Any one else have to deal with the flu? What did your physician advise?
Help.
I'm so sorry to hear that you were hit. I've heard that this is an awful strain going around ... but the good news is that it only lasts for a few days, so hang in there!
I'm not sure what a doctor would advise differently for a WLS person, but I would imagine that it would be 'fluids, fluids, fluids', and that's what you are doing already! I wouldn't even worry much about getting protein in, if you can't keep it down. (But do try a shake, sipped very slowly.) A few days without protein isn't going to make a long-term difference, but not getting in your fluids could put you in the hospital.
I'm a high school teacher and I didn't get a shot this year -- I'm assuming that this flu will catch up with me, too! I'm not looking forward to it, that's for sure!

Leslie - Thanks for the good news - that this wont last long. It's day two (from hell) for me. You're right I can't even think about food right now. I'm surviving on water, juice, sugar-free popsicles, Thera-flu and Tylenol.
Note to December gang:
If you can get a flu shot, by all means GET IT.
hanging in there- thanks again

I am so sorry you have been hit by the flu bug. Hang in there and drink plenty of liquid. Maybe a cool wash cloth would help your fever. You will be feeling like your new self again real soon.
I was one of the lucky ones. Before surgery my family doctor insisted that I get a flu shot and a pneumonia shot months before surgery. I'm hoping to escape this flu season.
Feel better real soon.
