Weight and pain question

Hey Everyone, Hope you all are doing well. I've got a question for you. I had my Open RNY on 12/16/04 and am doing pretty good so far but every once in a while I have this pain in my right side that flairs up. It is primarily in the upper part of my incision and just feels like I"m being torn open. Yes I've talked to my surgeon about this and he says that it's probably just adhesions inside that need to heal. But I'm not sure and here's why. Everytime this flairs up my abdomen in the lower part seems swollen to me and I gain about 1-2 pounds with it. Has this happened to anyone else and how did you handle it or what could it be? Thank you so much for your help. Loni

I have had that experience and like you have been told similar. I have deduced that it is usually a combination of things with me when it happens. I have been eating good, need to go potty and/or have maybe been lifting too much or been more active than usual. I try to write down when I have a pain like that and what is going on with me that day. I find its usually been one or a combination of these things. Hope it helps. I weighed in today and have lost 115 pounds since Dec. 14th so I am excited. Keep up the good work

Steve, Oh my gosh, 115 pounds so far that is amazing you must be so thrilled. I've lost 41 pounds and I've been thrilled about that, but I would much rather have your loss. Keep up the great work that you are doing? I can't wait to see how you do. Loni

When was your last GYN visit? Could it be when you are ovulating on the left side that puts pressure on your abdominal area and you have referring pain pushing on the right side scare area? Just a thought. Monica

Well that's a good thought Monica but I just got done with my cycle so I don't think that I'm ovulating yet. But thank you. Loni

Depending on persons size determines how fast you drop your weight. The larger you are the more you'll drop. I have dropped 74 pounds since my surgery. I was no light weight going into this surgery. I weighted 338 pounds day of surgery so I have a long ways to go before I reach goal. Donna

Oh Loni, I am so sorry that you are going through that pain. Have you spoken to just a regular PCP or to a GYN? It may not have anything to do with the surgery, but something else. Please just cover all bases and let us know how you are doing. Hugs, Kathy
