Stomach ache

It has been 11 weeks since my surgery. I was fine until I started eating solid foods. (whi*****ludes soup) I have a constant stomach ache. Very sharp pain in my abdomin. I spoke to my surgeon and he said I might have an ulcer or the opening to my stomach might be too small or I might have a raw area in my stomach that is becoming irritated. I was also told that sometimes this is a side effect of the surgery for the first three months. My surgeon has done nothing other than prescribing antacid. He seems to be waiting for the three month period to see if I still have the stomach ache. Due to this problem I have been unable to do anything. Has anyone had stomach aches that never seem to go away?

Joy, YES! I had some really bad stomach aches, the kind that caused me to double over. It was a terrible pain. I had my surgery 12/27. Come to find out I had an ulcer. I was prescribed 2 different medicines, Carafate and Prevacid. I was in the hospital 3 nights. Once I had the endoscopy they found the ulcer. I wouldn't have lasted 3 months to see if it went away. I had gone into the emergency room with my pain and my surgeon admitted me and that's how we found out what I had. I don't think you should wait 3 months. You may need to force your surgeons hand in this and possibly go into the ER so someone can take a look at you and make them contact your surgeon. I still have this ulcer even with the medicine I am taking. It is a lot better, but believe me it definitely flares up. Let me know what happens Shannon

I'm sorry your going through this. In all honesty if I was you I would DEMAND that my surgeon check my stomach out now. Why should you suffer while he waits around for three months to see what happens. You have gone through to much to get to the losing side so why wait until there is a larger hole in your stomach due to an ulcer or wait until your stoma closes up all together. I have become very touchy about my health since I started on this journey of wanting WLS. I feel that I put my health in my surgeons hands and when I call him he better darn well listen and take care of me. I wish you the best of luck and if your still not feeling well then call that surgeon back and tell him you want a scope because your tired of not being able to enjoy your food due to a stomach ache. I would encourage you to call your doctor again and really push the issue. If you do have an ulcer it is only going to get worse. Be assertive and get it checked out. Best of luck to you
