Hair loss?

It might just be my imagination, but it seems to me that I am loosing a lot of hair, when I bru**** etc. Anyone else? And if so, what causes it? I heard about this happening, but I guess I just assumed 'not me'! I'm keeping up on my protein and taking my vitamins, just not my calcium. I can't imagine that calcium would be related, though. ~~ Leslie 12/17 238/190/138

Leslie, I have not noticed any hair loss yet. I am following advice I received from my hairdresser. She said to make sure I got a lot of B type vitamins. I take the Optisource chewable vitamins, 1 chewable 4 times a day. My weight management doctors and nutritionist sugges these as the best vitamins for gastric bypass patients. You get 2000% of B12 with these vitamins a day. I am also not washing my hair daily, something very new for me. I maybe wa**** only 2 times a week. On the mornings I do not wa**** I wet the hair and pat gently with a towel to remove the wet wet. I purchased a fantastic hair moisturizer at Sephora.com. This product is olive oil based. I take a dab, rub it in my hands and then gently run my hands all over my hair and roots. This product locks in the moisture, helps manage the frizzies, and makes my hair nice and curly. I love it. I also drink 64+++ oz of water daily. I do not use a brush, only my hands and fingers to style my naturally curly hair. Monica

I'm playing the waiting game. No unusual hair loss yet. I started taking biotin prior to surgery and still continue. My vitamins contain lots of the B's as well as zinc (which I've also heard is important for hair). My hair has been growing faster since I started the biotin, still is. I worked to get my protein consumption up to snuff as soon as I could after surgery. Some people have said it is from anesthesia. My brother the doctor says it is inevitable due to the fact of having abdominal surgery. It does eventually grow back, I hear. Sue O.

At my support group we learned that your hair holds the nutrients for about 100 days give or take.. so that is why even if you are doing well now your hair is living off the nutrients that you took in 100 days ago.

Hello, I had my surgery on Dec 30th. I started taking biotin about a month ago.. I haven't seen any hair loss yet, but they say it takes until you're out into month 4 or 5 before you'd see much. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the biotin will make a difference. I notice my finger nails are growing quite nicely. Take care, Renee

Leslie - Remember that the hair loss is also from the gas when you were under during surgery. Hair loss is not uncommon for any major surgery because of this. Candy

My doc recommends biotin for hair loss along with your vitamins and calcium. Hope this helps!
