Protein absorption.

I was wondering if anyone knows the time interval we should take between protein drinks. I know our bodies can only obsorb about 27 grms of protein at a time (unless we're an athlete). I have been drinking 3 shakes a day and getting about 90-100 grms of protein for the last couple of weeks and my weight loss seems to be increasing at a faster pace.

I heard 27gr per hour are absorbed. I think its most important to start you day with protean. Our bodies need it to get started. Are you only getting protean from the shakes? Check your calories, they may be high. I just descovered shrimp. Trader Joes has butterfly shrip. I think 3 have 70 calories and 20 grams of protean. Liz

Thank you for the response Liz. I was reading your earlier post. I'm so sorry you had complications from the surgery. I hope you will get to feeling better with every passing day. Yes, I start my day with 27 grms of protein, and have 3 total drinks a day with 27 grms each. I'm not getting in enough calories, (maybe 800) so my doctor suggested that I add fruit to the drinks and, it not only makes the drinks taste yummy, but it helps with the calories. I haven't been able to eat very much at a time yet or tolerate a lot. I'm living for the most part on the protein drinks, water, cottage cheese, chili and oatmeal, and, of course, my vitamins and calcium. Oh ya, a lot of exercise. I have been walking for about 1 to 1 and 1/2 hours a night. I am 2 months out and have lost 55 pounds. Not as fast as most, but I think it has increased since I started to drink 3 protein shakes a day instead of 2, and since I drink 1 and 1/2 scoups or 27 grms of powder a drink instead of 1 scoup or 18 grms. I don't drink milk so I mix with water. I feel wonderful. I have learned so much already about our diet, and am excited about learning more. I call 12/13/04 my new birthday and look forward to the rest of my life. Instead of "living to eat," I'm "eating to live." Have a great day! Hope to talk to you again.
