Question. When people say "I can't tolerate that" what exactly does it mean. I know that when I try to eat meat, I can't tolerate it and it feels like it is sitting on top of my pouch, still in my esophagus. Is that what everyone means? And what happens next? Thanks, Mona

I think that is what it means. It can also mean that it makes them sick.

It means "at least for me" that I should not try to eat that right now. Meat is really hard to digest,,you might try pureeing it or try something else like fish, Fish is good if its moist. If it feels like it wont go down,,well then it will come up..god bless ....ron in arizona

Mona, you can't change things that you tolerate, so if you cannot tolerate eatting meat, then you are putting up with it, so don't tolerate it. Are you eating very small bites and chewing well? I have that same feeling sometimes, I found out that I was taking too big of a bite and not chewing it well. Now I really take care to cut small portions and then cut them in half, I don't have much problem when I do it that way. However, I do have problems with the first meal of the day. So I am still doing my protien shake for breakfast. I hope this helps. The only thing I can think of that I should not be able to tolerate is sugar and there is no changing that since surgery. I found out the hard way with ketchup. Lots of sugar and did not know it. Take care and good luck. Alina Martin

Sorry, but I want'ed to say one more thing. Sometimes people pu**** to fast, or they have had problem not fully disclosed. But to tolerate food I found it was best to do small amounts, like stacking it in my stomach. For example. Bite of meat, bite of green bean, bite of meat, bite of carrot, and chew them all well. Some people cannot tolerate something because of how fast they eat, how it was cooked or because they have not healed enough. But I have done well so far, no vomitting, knock on wood. But I have had that feeling that it was right there about to come out. I hope I didn't sound @#$$%%$#@ before, just trying to help out. Best of luck. Alina

I cook most of my meat in the crockpot, makes it very soft, moist and easier to chew up. I've been able to eat BBQ made with chuck steak cooked on low for 10-12 hrs. Also chicken stuffed with lemon and rosemary, cooked on low for 6 hrs. The problem with other cooking methods is that the meat can get dry so you have to be careful not to cook it too hard or long, use a marinade or sauce, or some bullion for extra moisture. I've yet to try a steak but ground beef is OK. I had chili made with ground buffalo for lunch today, went down OK. I have a tendency to gulp my food, not chew it up enough, so this is how I've dealt with it. Sue O.
