I'm on my way!
Hi Everyone!
I just had my 6 week checkup yesterday and was cautioned not to get too crazy with the protein. Too much protein is not good for the kidneys, that's for sure.
Typical day:
I drink my protein drink which adds about 50 grms a day, but I eat at least 3 meals a day and a couple of snacks. Breakfast usually consists of an egg (or egg beaters) which adds 6 grams, lunch is a couple of ounces of a meat, usually tuna or chicken salad and some whole wheat crackers or a slice of whole grain bread, which can add another 20 grams and then dinner is usually chicken and salad or something similar. It sounds like a lot of food but really isn't when you consider I am only eating about 1/2 to 2/3's cup of food, if that, each time. Not everyone can eat that much. I don't eat as many carbs but sometimes splurge with just a very small baked potato for lunch or dinner (with EVERYTHING on it!) and nothing else (love those potatos!). The doctor said to add some whole wheat bread or whole wheat crackers, maybe some whole grain pasta, but overall, I was right on target. My blood tests will tell if I am doing okay or not with this plan, getting what I need nutritionally.
Snacks: Sugar Free Gelatin, or a stick of string cheese, or sugar free pudding, or 1/2 of a small banana, or a few orange sections. Something like that.
I am diabetic and am used to really cutting down on the carbs. I still have to really limit my fruit. I don't take insulin anymore but still have to take my Actos because my sugars are still trying to level out. I run in the mid to high 100's most of the time (without the Actos) and they said it could be up to 6 months before I actually get to stop all my medications.
I am losing slowly but consistently around 2 to 2 1/2 pounds a week now. Because I have a problem with my right arm and shoulder, exercise has not been added. However, that is about to change so hopefully there will be a small increase in the weight loss.
I am not complaining, 2 pounds lost per week is bigger than when I went to weigh****chers! And I am not starving myself.
Also, you need to know that I started at only 90 pounds overweight, but was approved because of all my co-morbidities. So I will lose weight a little slower than a lot of you!
Sorry for rambling on but wanted to let you know what my plan / course of action was and what my results have been so far. I'm on my way to a healthier me!
Thanks for taking the time to read!
