1. Do you have one of those scales that tell you what your fat percent is? Maybe you are losing inches and fat. 2. I found if I eat the same number of calories and the same amount of protein that on the days that I drank unjury protein drinks that I lost weight and the days that I didn't drink it even if everything else was the same I just didn't lose weight. My body really likes that form of protein.

Hi Jamie, You mentioned December 15th RNY, but once I read your post, I noticed that you had your surgery on 12/14/04. That is the same day I had mine. I am not sure what I can tell you here. What is your approximate daily protein intake as far as grams? My diet thus far has been somewhat different than yours. But then, each surgeon seems to require their own regimen for their patients to be on. I was required to be on clear liquids the first three weeks, then full liquids the second three weeks. After that, certain things are introduced as far as soft solids, but I have found that I simply cannot tolerate every single thing suggested there. So, I am sort of clinging to the full liquids for a while. That includes the protein shakes four times a day, which sort of equates to 60 grams of daily protein. I am not "too bright" when it comes to trying to figure out what foods has what amount of protein...wish I could, as I would LOVE to snack on cheese! I think I am going to try it, and see if I can keep it down, though. As far as meats go, I am glad you can eat those without any problem. Every time I try to eat meat of any kind, it just starts giving me problems and often as not, comes right back up. It really and truly does not sound like you are doing anything wrong. Perhaps you may want to try including some protein shakes at intervals during the day, for a week or so and see if that helps. I have heard that pumping the protein in can really jumpstart a sluggish weight loss, and I have found it to be true for myself as I had sort of plateaued at 40 pounds for couple of weeks, but I was being lazy about the shakes, too. Once I started doing them again, the weight started moving. Walmart has a pretty good selection of ready-to-drink shakes at sort of reasonable prices (although all supplements are really priced more than I like to pay). Advant-Edge is really good, and comes in a variet of flavors. I feel certain that you will soon see a great weight loss. PLEASE, PLEASE do not get discouraged! I know exactly how you feel, though...every time I have weighed at the doctor's office, either BEFORE or AFTER surgery, I get pissed off because it is ALWAYS more than my personal scales weigh. I sometimes really doubt if they calibrate their scales on a regular basis as they should, and no doubt they are most likely "off" with patients weighing on them several times a day. But HEY! Thirty pounds is not bad at all! In fact, it is great! Please feel free to email me and keep in touch, if you would like. I wouild love to hear from you from time to time. God bless you! Pat

Jaime, My surgery was 12/22 and I had lost 35 lbs as of 2/2. One thing you must try to remember is that excersize builds muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. Have you been checking your measurements every once in a while? You know like waist, hips, arm, chest, thigh stuff like those places could be steadily losing inches and here you are stressing out thinking you are doing something wrong. As someone else said in here every doctor is different. I could not eat everything you are eating only because I am only allowed 2 oz of anything per meal. I have not tried bread yet but don't think I want to only because I am trying my hardest to stay low carb and low fat. The cheese I don't eat as much because of the problems it gives with stool. My diet unfortunately is pretty bland and boring. If your doctor tells you that you are doing what you are supposed to be doing then don't get discouraged. By all means though if you aren't measuring yet you might want to start. Make sure you don't do it every week though... If you do the changes will be so small that you will still get discouraged. I keep in close contact with my diatician. That is the person you should be talking to about what you are and aren't eating. I really hope you have a good one you can confide in about this because it is a very important thing in the whole weight loss journey. Good luck and God Bless!! Michelle

Hi Jamie, you are doing fine. Just remember to get your protein in first. I track what I eat and drink using fitday.com. This helps me keep track of my protein I am getting in per day. Keep up the good work. Fran

Jamie - You are doing fine. I would add another protein drink - mixed with water and lose the bread. Also, remember that exercize adds muscle - muscle is heavier (but slimmer) than fat. You are probably gaining muscle and losing fat. My day looks like this: B: protein shake mixed with sf skim milk & banana S: string cheese L: 1/2 lean cusine S: power crunch bar or string cheese or nsa apple sauce or sunflower seeds shelled. D: 1/2 lean cusine or boca spicy meatless chicken patty or whatever S: protein shake mixed with water before bed. I was only taking in about 750 calories and not losing much, but my doc told me yesterday that I should be taking in about 900-1000 calories and I would see the loss come easier. Good luck! Jamie, I know how you feel. I have been stuck at 25 pounds since surgery and maintained that 25 for the last 2 weeks. It is frustrating BUT I look at it this way .... would we have been able to lose that much in a month before WLS? Thats a big NOPE! I have to keep reminding myself of this everyday. Hang in there! Jamie, Make sure your getting at least 60 grams of protien a day,(or what your surgeon says on the amount) if you can't get it by food do a protien shake.. I take Isopure protien shakes they are 50 grams of protien 300 calories and i think 24 carbs 1 gram sugar. Some surgeons dont want you using them some do so check with yours. If your says yes on the shakes then Isopure is good but expensive, Walmart carry's Advanta Edge not to expensive and I was told it tastes good. I mix mine with Milk for added calcium. Make sure your drinking WATER WATER WATER!!! And of course exercise!!! Debby
