Not digesting food...
I'm 5 weeks out and Wednesday night, my smooth ride came to an end. I began by being nauseas all day. That night, I started vomiting uncontrollably, followed my severe pain in my upper abdomen. I went to the ER. They gave me some anti-nausea meds and Morphine for the pain via IV. They did a CAT scan & everything looked okay. My surgeon did an endoscopy, which confirmed that my pouch was healing and looked healthy and like it was functioning.
Friday night, I was allowed to have a bit of soup. It tasted so good, but felt like it never went down. I was burping it up until last night - a full 24 hours after I ingested it. Finally, I felt so nauseas with it, I made myself throw it up and felt a world better.
After three nights in the hospital, even the surgeon who performed my surgery didn't know exactly what was wrong with me. I told him that I didn't feel like I was digesting food, that it was just sitting in my esophagus. He nodded and said that could be a possibility, out of many others.
I'm so frustrated and want some answers. Why doesn't he or any of the other doctors know what is wrong with me?
I'm back on liquids indefinitely. Food seems so disgusting to me, knowing that it won't go through and I will be burping it up for days to come.
Has anyone had this problem? How long did it last and how did you deal with it in the mean time? Please help.
lynsady: Nothing as bad as you have. At first I just noticed that I burped alot and that was not something I did before WLS. I ask my dr if I was drinking wrong or what. He said maybe but also there might be more pressure down there now then there was before. I did start to drink slower and it did seem to go away. Good luck hope your dr figures it out soon.
