Hey Guys! I know everyone is BORED with what they have been eating, so I want to share some 'soul' with you guys. It is important to me to share some tasty recipies with my new post-op friends, which have worked for me! Each recipie is a part of an early post-op blended diet, and soft-food diet, so feel free to try it immediately! I have substituted salt, etc, with Mrs. Dash blends, which are EXCELLENT for post-op's, not only because it is 'salt free', but because all the blends pack an honest PUNCH! The other seasonings are POWDERS, so use at your taste descretion. PLEASE, PLEASE feel free to Post up those recipies that have worked for you, so far... nothing is to little, or too silly! Open up! Remember, just because we can't eat the same, or taste the same... doesn't me we can't learn to enjoy the 'little things' all over again. COOKING WITH SOUL, Vera An excited post-op *****FUSED to eat boringly! RNY Proximal 12/20/04 343/313/? Enjoy, and PLEASE, provide feedback if you do! GROOVIN' GRITS 1 packet of Quacker Instant Grits 1/2 cup of water 1/4 cup of skim milk 1/2 slice of American Cheese (or your liking) 1 teaspoon of (all MIXED together) garlic POWDER, onion POWDER and white pepper (pepper optional) 1/2 teaspoon of 'I can't believe it's not butter, LITE 1. fill small pot with 1/2 cup of water until boil 2. plop in 1/2 teaspoon of 'I can't beliee it's not butter' 2. pour in mixed seasonings (about 2 shakes each bottle) 3. let boil a little more 4. pour in Quacker Instant Grits and STIR 5. turn off fire 6. plop in 1/2 slice of cheese (cut up or crumble first and drop in) and 7. STIR 8. pour in 1/4 cup of skim milk and STIR This recipie is the BOMB! It is a variation of a 'southern' style of grits... and soon, you'll be able to add crumbled backon/turkey backon. Put into cup, use a SMALL SPOON, make sure consistance is still THIN. If thick, add more milk/water. This recipie can also be blended in a blender once cooked. Eat slowly, CHEW STILL... and ENJOY! (This recipie can also be cooked in microwave, by following the same) PUCKERD POTATOES 1 oz Packett of Betty Crocker Homestyle Potatoes (Garlic or Butter Style) 1/2 cup of water 1/4 cup of skim milk 1/4 teaspoon of 'I can't believe it's not butter' LITE 1/2 teaspoon (mixed all together) Mrs. Dash Table Blend 1. Boil water 2. plop in 'I can't believe it's not butter' 3. STIR in 1/4 teaspoon of Mrs. Dash Table Blend 4. turn off fire 5. STIR in 1/4 milk till creamy If unable to find Betty Crocker, use a can of CREAM OF POTATO SOUP, as a substitute, and reduce milk. Remember, consistancy should be THIN. Usually, if too thick, you WILL dump. Betty Crocker makes all types of flavored potatoes, so you dont' have to be stuck with regular. You can add 1/4 slice of cheese, if you need more protein. This recipie can also be blended in a blender, then cooked. Sit back and enjoy! TASTY TOMATO TEASER 1 can of tomato soup (no chunks) 1/2 cup of water 1/4 cup of skim milk 1 teaspoon of Mrs. Dash Tomato Blend 1. pour tomato soup into pot 2. add 1/2 cup of water 3. Stir in 1 teaspoon of Mrs. Dash Tomato Blend 4. pour in 1/4 cup of skim milk This recipie is highly TASTY. Believe me, it puts a pucker and punch to those overworked taste, dead taste buds! You'll enjoy it. TANTALIZING TUNA 1 can of Starkiss, or Chicken of the Sea, with WATER (only) TUNA 1/2 teaspoon of Mirclewhip/Mayo LITE (NOT DIET) 1 hard boiled egg, or soft boiled, depending on where you are post-op 1 teaspoon (all mixed together) onion POWDER, and Mrs. Dash Onion Blend 1/4 packett of Splenda (to substitute relish) (we can't have relish yet) 1. drain can of tuna 2. put tuna in a small bowl 3. add 1/2 teaspoon of Mirclewhip/Mayo Lite 4. use chopper, or blender, to reduce boiled egg to mush (yes mush) 5. pour 1 teaspoon of onion POWDER and Mrs. Dash Onion Blend, and 1/4 packet of Splenda in blender with egg (yes mix all together again) 6. pour blended egg and seasoning mix into drained tuna mixture 7. Stir together 8. Chill in fridge for about 10 min. This is a wonderful, light recipie. If you can eat the entire bowl, you'll have about 20g of protein, with the egg and tuna! However, try to eat slowly, and SAVOR the FLAVORS... and have the rest for dinner. If you can have lite, thin crackers, try 3 or 4, and enjoy! Well, I hope you guys enjoy my SOUFUL, TASTY recipies. Do share yours, for variety. I'll post more recipies soon, depending on your feedback to these! Bon Appitite! Vera VARIETY IS THE 'SPICE' OF LIFE!
