I can no longer stomach Protein Drinks. I gag just at the thought of them. I am not hungry either. I have not been getting my calories or protein in and I am really worried that I am going to get sick. I had my surgery on 12/27. I have only lost 20lbs. I am getting pretty discouraged because my stomach is upset all the time. I have sampled so many protein drinks, but they are all nasty. I am suppose to be on pureed foods now, but there is no way that I can drink pureed fish!! Anyone have any suggestions for me. I am not losing as much weight as I wanted and it is probably because I am not eating..PLEASE HELP Thanks Shannon

Just over 2 weeks & U've lost ONLY 21 pds. I had the surgery on 12/14 & have lost 26 pds. So sounds like U're doing great. As far as the proteins drinks go I know what U mean CIB made me gag. I've been using pro complex from GNC but that's still hard to get down. Check with your Doctor & maybe he'll give U something 4 the nausea. But I tried it & the nausea med was horrible just trying to get down. This will pass hang in there. How R U doing on your water? I'm still having trouble getting that down.

What is CIB? I've seen several people refer to it.

Shannon, I've been lucky with Optimun Nutrition - I get it at GNC. I'm mix it with skim milk plus (extra protein) and it isn't too bad (for me anyway). For me pureed foods included things like oatmeal, cream of wheat, yogurt, ricotta cheese. Did your surgeon's office give you a list of food to try? Btw, I think 20 lbs is great is two weeks! I am almost 5 weeks out and I've lost 30 pounds. Best of luck, Mary

my Dr told me not to worry so much about protein drinks as long as i had a diet with lots of protein. i always eat my protein first at every meal. so i eat moist chicken breast and soups from campbells...i pureed them at first and i drink lots of water and aqua cal and crystal lite. i never drank a protein drink thus far. my husband and i went to Ruby Tuesdays and i had their brocolli and cheese soup with extra shredded cheese (for protein) and it is wonderful. i wouldnt drink pureed fish either...try premade soups from the grocery store...they are really good blended. i had my surgery on 12/17 and id lost 35 pounds as of yesterday 1/11. i walk three times a day for about 15 minutes. and im finally starting to move around my home again. as for your tummy being upset...try milk of magnesium. also try things warm...that soothed my tummy. so shannon dont say youve only lost 20 pounds...this is just the first 20! remember to be consistant with your meals with protein firs****ch your fat and carbs and sugar intake. take your vitamins and minerals and more weight will fall off literally. lissa 430/395/1-11-05

Hi Shannon, I feel the same way about the protein drinks! I decided to try to puree some of the meats, but the thought of doing it made me sick. Yesterday I made my kids browned turkey with Manwich sauce to make sloppy Joe's. Today, I warmed some up, put it in the food processor and it came out pretty yummy. I am allowed 2 oz. of pureed beef, so I measured that amount and was full after 1 1/2 oz. The flavor was just what I needed and it pureed really well. It is really low fat, I think the Manwich sauce might have even been fat free, so the only fat was from the meat. I think it is high in carbs, though, so I will limit it to once a week or so. I also can't make the tuna myself because I feel sick from the smell, but as long as my hubby makes it for me (he uses 1 can tuna packed in water and 2 tblsp. diet mayo and puts it in the processor for me and I get 3-4 servings out of it). It is good with a wedge of laughing cow low fat cheese (35 cals.). These are all very soft and pureed consistency. I am really having a hard time eating because I get full quickly. I think that you are right about the not losing when you don't eat enough. I had a few days where I wasn't able to take in enough and I teetered with the same pound and as soon as I felt well enough to up the calories, the pound went! I am trying so hard to do everything right so I lose. I hope this idea helps. Good luck! Fran

CIB is Carnation Instant Breakfast which I can't get near my nose let alone down my throat since the surgery. I've just started my 5th week post-op & am finally STARTING to feel more human but I know my protein level is low.

My doctor gave me ANYWHEY Protein powder. It hardly has any taste to it. It has 17 grams of protein per serving and I put it into skim milk, which gives me 25 grams for 8 oz. I also add it to a cup of yogurt. I use the Hood Atkins approved yogurt because it has 12 grams of protein and very little sugar. You really can't taste it at all. Also, my doctor said I did not have to puree tuna fish - just really sma**** well with a fork and use low-fat mayo. I've done this and it's great. I also do not puree scrambled eggs, cottage cheese either. My surgery was on December 9, 2004. So far I've been able to eat tuna, homemade beef metaballs with regular tomato sauce (I used Prego), macaroni & Cheese (not pureed - Stouffers frozen and the blue box kind), applesauce, yogurt, cottage cheese, pirogi, spaghetti, etc. I have not thrown up anything, but each new food I try a bite or two and let it sit to see how it reacts. I also eat very slowly and chew thoroughly. I don't get in as much water as I should (usually 4 8 oz glasses a day), but I'm working on it. It's been 5 weeks today, and I've lost 30.5 lbs. Slower than some, but I won't see those come back on like in the past. I'm also not walking or working, because I came down with a horrible cold and cough. I'll be going back to work on Monday and I feel weak, but my strength will come back slowly. Good luck and I hope some of my suggestions will help.

Now I'm confused because everyone has been telling me no beef of any kind for almost a year ditto with the mac & cheese and the spaghetti as they're carbs.

Well, I got sick of eating alot of things too. I had surgery 12/13/04 and I found instant potatoes to be wonderful, I even got some gravy from one of the neighbor hood chinese restaurants and poured it on top. Quaker also sells sugar free oatmeal in different flavors. Even if you can't eat the pureed fish try baking some Talapia fish and chewing it very good****il it feels like you jaw is about to fall off). That is what I had to do you have to find what works good foryou without over stepping your boundaries. As far as the protien goes, try smoothie king they have wonderful protein shakes. I usually drink the chocolate and banana with a protein blast and it taste great. It even has yougart in it. I hope your journey gets better. Email me if you like and we can chat and share the journey.
