I hSurgery Tuesday 12/21/04, and am still supposed to be on full liquids. I'm sooooo tired of it. I'm hungry. Or, at least I feel hungry. I've had a few bites of potted meat. I had mashed pototoes (my doc allows this) and I've had a few bites of chili and refried beans. I'm not supposed to be having these things, but. I'm hungry. Any suggestions?

A little secret.. I had my surgery 12/22 and I am having all that and then some. Each doctor is different. Mine takes you off liquid once you leave the hospital. I eat a lot of stuff like tuna and chicken and my favorite..shrimp. Just discuss it with the diatician at your doctor's office and make sure you let them know your frustration. Maybe they will advance you to atleast pureed. Michelle

I had my surgery on 12/14 and all I've been having is bean or chicken soup, tuna, and cottage cheese. I tried chicken & it was just so tasteless. I saw someone tried chill. Wouldn't that be to spicy $ us?

Linda, Did you just make plain chicken?? There are a lot of marinades that you can make the chicken in. Also here is a big bonus. I tried a lean cuisine low carb meal. It was roasted garlic chicken and spinach in parmesian sauce. Of course I pureed the chicken after I cooked it and it provided 3 meals for me.. It was soooo good that I went to the store and bought a whole bunch of different ones. If you do this you have to make sure to look at the calories that you will consume, the carbohydrates, and the sugar. This one was 200 calories for the whole meal but it provided me with three meals so I was safe. I got tired of the marinated chicken and this has provided new hope for my meals. If you have a Kroger in your area they are half off right now.. I hope I have helped even a little. I tried chilli and no it wasnt spicy because I dont make it spicy but it also wasnt good for the weight loss part of it. I'm sure there were quite a few calories. I haven't had it anymore. L would have thought the lean cuisine was loaded with carbs and what about the sodium content? I see you've tried shrimp. That's my favorite food in all the world. But I guess I'll never be able to have scampi again. Sigh!! When I ate the chicken, I just took a little piece & shredded it & then chewed it to death. What kind of marinades r U talking about?? I'm in Tx we don't have Kroger here unfortunately. Can U give me any ideas on how to "cook" for a 5 week old tummy. My 8 year old has named it Katie. So that whenever I not feeling to good she'll tell me it's "KATIE'S FAULT." How do U store these little meals? I guess I could figure a way with my food vac but since I've been so listless I haven't wanted to "play" in the kitchen."

Linda, Actually here I will give you the things off of the "low carb" lean cuisines. This is for a 9 oz serving so you have to do the math in it: Calories:200 Total Fat: 8g Sat Fat 3g Cholesteral: 40mg Sodium 690 mg ( i love salt though so I dont mind) Carbs: 14g Sugars: 4g Protein: 17g This is off of the Roasted Garlic Chicken. I read all of that to my nurse and she said it was fine. As far as storing it. It gives you four meals so if you put it in a container in the fridge it should be fine. The marinade that I use is Lawry's but Im sure if you go to an area of the store that you have in Texas they will have all sorts of marinades for you to choose from. You can also use Italian dressing as a marinade. I only cook one chicken breast at a time so the storing problem isnt much because well it goes quick and if it doesn't then I just throw it away. One thing that has always been really really hard for me is throwing stuff away. I have learned to do that. I hate to waste things. You can just e mail me at my e mail if you want to or we can keep it up on here. I am at 3 1/2 weeks out and have lost 23lbs now. I can't be doing too bad if I have lost that much. My nurse said I am ahead of schedule.lol Well let me know if you need anything okay.. Even if it is just someone to b**** to. I don't mind. Take care I hope I have helped even a little bit. Oh yea if you do try the lean cuisine keep it on the chicken and turkey. I did the surloin tips and puked for 4 hours. I ate beef fine after the first week of my surgery and I guess my stomach changed its mind. I also learned I really like clam chowder now. Especially in this cold weather we are having here. Same here. I've enjoyed the "soup at hand" with saltines. The saltines melt into a mush so I know they go down ok. Sometimes I just crumble them into my soup for extra texture if I'm afraid I won't chew them to bits. But this is all allowed by my surgeon. Hang in there. Are you reallly hungry? I'm sure not. I just about have to force myself to eat. No hunger here. Most of my hunger is all in my head. I've tried to get back into my scrapbooking to occupy my time. I'm too tired to do anything else.

I am also really stuggling and it is causing me to be irritable and discontent. I am allowed to have scrambled eggs, light yogurt and oatmeal in addition to my liquids. I had severe pains with the eggs, so I stopped (advice of my doctor). The yogurt and oatmeal are not giving me problems. The oatmeal worse though. I get very uncomfortable after only a few bites. Anyone have any experience like this?
