Hi everyone, I had Rny on the 27th of December and would like to know how some more Rny er's that had surgery on the same day are getting along...I just got moved to the soft stage and I'd like some ideas from others about what they are eating...I had soft eggs with fat free cheese today and 3 oz. of tuna in fat free mayo...I felt like I wanted to eat everything in site and as good as it was to finally put food in my mouth again..nothing tasted good...you know without all the bad fat and sugar in it..lol...And anyone out there that could give some good suggestions on what is good to eat during this stage would be appreciated...Also, I have a problem with knowing when I'm full...I mean I eat slow..afraid of the pressure if I don't...but I'm just guessing that I'm wanting to eat the food more than I'm really needing to eat the food...I hope someone understands what I'm talking about.. Anyway ,, How do you know when your full...I mean , I've read peoples profiles that said they took 2 bites and were full...not me or at least I didn't know it... Okay, I've rambled enough...lol...Best Wishes to all of you...God Bless you..NannaS

Hello, I had my surgery 12/27. I am having a lot of trouble with the whole eating thing. I am suppose to be on pureed food, but I am not hungry at all. I am a little sick to my stomach. I am unable to drink my protein as well, so, I am basically at a stand still. I am going to force myself to eat some tuna today. There is no way that I am going to eat pureed tuna, but you can bet I will chew it 100 times. I am a little disappointed in my weight loss..it is probably due to the fact that I am not getting in enough protein and calories. I wish I could help you with some food suggestions, but I am going crazy with that myself!! Shannon

Hi Shannon, Well the tuna is a good source of the omega and since I like tuna I try to get some in...I found out thought that it definitely has to be pureed...I finally got in some pureed chicken that I baked this afternoon and cheated a little cause I had two tbps of mashed potato with it . I had been feeling really sick and tired today but after I ate that seems like I got a little spurt of energy..and did my walking...I'm having real trouble with my fluid intake...I'm trying but I'm just not that thristy...I guess most of my hunger is head hunger but I get a sick feeling when I go too long without eating something. I guess we are just so new at this but sometimes I get really upset thinking that the weight is coming off so slow and I'm struggling with the food and fluids...I was like you , I didn't like the protein drinks much at all...the advant was better but still didn't get in what they recommended...I've always been a meat and potatoes person but when you can get it in because it gets hung up then it kinda sucks...but I found out that even though it may not appeal to the eye or the chewing factor, if you put it in the blender and make it mush then it goes down alot better...but then I worry about the next phase and the chewing part of it...I mean if I can't even chew tuna up enough to make it go down smooth how in the world can I chew up whole pieces of meat? Well best of luck to you Shannon and if you ever want to talk just email me..NannaS

Hi Nanna, I just found this board. I am SO excited!!!! I also had my surgery on 12/27. I haven't tried tuna yet, but I probably will within the next day or so. I am still technically supposed to be on the pureed (sp) diet, but I can't hack it. I have experimented a bit. I haven't dumped or anything but I ate some peanut butter crackers and it felt so heavy in my pouch. I won't eat those again any time soon. I also need suggestions on what to eat. What else are you eating? I dislike things like cottage cheese, yougart, etc so I think I will find it difficult to get my protein in without the CIB's. I know what you mean about nothing tastes good. At this point, I could go without eating if my body permitted it. Keep in touch if you'd like!!! Jenn

Hi Jenn, They don't allow me to have any type of bread or potatoes right now, even though I did cheat a little at dinner tonight...Just was feeling way too tired and though maybe a little starch might help and it did...I got enough energy after dinner to do my walking...and I can eat the peanut butter but no crackers allowed or bread... the tuna has to be pureed...I was having trouble with it just trying to chew it enough to get it down smoothly...and I pureed some chicken tonight that I had baked and it went down good...doesn't look so good but tasted fine...I get a little worried that if I'm having trouble with chewing it enough to make it mush now and on fine things like tuna then how will I ever be able to chew it enough to get it to go down when it's whole meat... I'm having trouble with my fluid intake also..I'm don't get that thristy and I try carrying something around with me all day but it just doesn't seem to ever get to the ounces they require...I wish I could get over what they require...And I'm real disappointed in my weight loss numbers...I feel like with all the struggle that I should at least have more weight loss to show for it...But if it comes off (even slowly) then I'll be happy...I just hope my energy picks up and things get a little easier about going down...I'd be glad to keep in touch if you'd like and maybe we can help each other out with any pit falls and share some success's...Best of Luck...NannaS

That would be great! I am also having a bit of trouble getting in all of my liquids. I just had my first follow up appointment this morning and it went pretty well. By their scale (which was a different one from the one they used the day of surgery!!!) I only lost 15 pounds, but I've been using my scale all along and I know I've lost 23 pounds. That kind of made me upset. The original scale they used is like 7 pounds lighter then any other scale which can be frustrating! I am really not supposed to have any breads or crackers either...I just wanted to get some carbs in to see if my energy would go up and it seemed to for a bit. I am sorry that you are disappointed about your weight loss. I know it will get better. The surgeon told me today that for about a month, our bodies retain a lot of fluids so that it can get over the new pouch. That has to be it. I am also hardly ever thirsty but I have to force myself to drink. The surgeon also told me that the more water you drink, the more weight will come off. I know how frustrating...especially if you don't even feel like drinking in the first place. 64oz is a lot. I know I won't make that every day. DO you drink the Carnation Instant Breakfasts? That counts towards the 64oz - just in case you didn't know. I think I am going to try a little bit of tuna in applesauce. I heard that was good. Wish me luck! LOL Take care and keep in touch! Jenn

Hi Jenn, No I've not been drinking the Carnation drink. I've been drinking the sugar free Kool-aide and decaf coffee and water. I'm glad you told me about the water retention thing...my stomach seems to be almost bloated..I'm hoping this is only water...I've lost 18 lbs now but the scales haven't moved in about a week...that's what scares me..I'm afraid I'm doing something wrong or that I've stopped losing...my pants bag in the seat and legs but the belly is still there...it's almost like I've lost everywhere but there. The tuna in applesauce sounds good I might try it. I wish you the best and continued success. God Bless you and Take care. NannaS

My surgery was December 9th. I'm not hungry either and when I do eat, nothing tastes the same as it did before surgery. I'm told this will come back in time. I think it's good that it's the way it is for now anyway. I didn't know how it would feel when you're full either, but I've come to realize for me, anyway, that when I've had enough, I get this feeling like the food is sitting right below my esophogus and if I burp, the food might come out. I believe this is what everyone is talking about. I have never thrown up, so when I start to feel that feeling, I stop. I also eat slowly and chew thoroughly. I've eaten homemade beef meatballs with sauce. I just chewed them up really good. I have eaten macaroni and cheese made by Stouffers and the blue box by Kraft. I've had no problems eating pasta, as long as I know it's well cooked and fresh and I chew it thoroughly, I'm ok. So far the meatballs have been great. I add parm cheese for more protein. I can eat one meatball about the size of a golf ball. I also drink a protein supplement I add to milk or yogurt. It's called Anyweigh. It very tasteless and it has 17 grams of protein in it. Added to Hoods Atkins approved yogurt, which is 12 grams gives me 29 grams for one meal. Not too bad. Good luck with your new eating habbits and exercise program!!!!

Hi Sandra, My doctor doesn't want me to have any pork or beef until a year. And no bread or potatoes until I've lost all my weight...I cheated and had some though...not much..just 2 tbps of mashed potatoes and small amount of bread...about a tbps. They limit my choices so much on the diet plan they have for me...I know that there will be times I cheat some...but I get really discouraged when I don't see the scales moving. I'm really trying to stick to the program and get in my walks and drink the fluids(hard to get them in most of the time though). But so far the scale hasn't moved in a week and I'm getting frustrated... I do get the feeling you were speaking of and I guess that is my signal...I have to stop when I get it because it makes eating uncomfortable. Sometimes it's with a few bites and I get it and then sometimes I finish what I have on my plate and still don't have it...it depends on how soft the food is too. Good luck to you Sandra on your life style change and God Bless you...NannaS

I had Rny open Rny on 12/14. I went back to work last Monday. Hard!! That's another story. For what it's worth try pinto bean (pureed of course) with fat free string cheese grated on top. I give the leftover string cheese to my 8 year old as a snack. She loves it. Anyway nuke it for 25 seconds it's not half bad. Also mix vanilla flavored proein mix with wate( or milk) Butter Buds, cinnamon and a packet of splenda or something similar. Supposed to taste like a cinnamon roll. Today's the first day I got my protein down. Anybody got any other ideas????
