I'm having a really hard time getting my protein in. Every time I drink a protein drink I feel sick to my stomach. The very thought of them makes me feel sick. I've tried 4-5 different brands and a variety of flavors. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hey M, I had the same problem that you are having and what I did was to mix my protein with 2 cups of milk instead of just 10-12 oz and that has really helped me, it thins it out so it's more like milk to me. Also I noticed that I was trying to get the protein shake down to quickly, try sipping on it for awhile. I'm not sure how many days out you are nut what I Also do is pureed chicken. I marinate the chicken breast in a Lawry's marinade and cook it for about 20 minutes then I put it in the food processor and it is really great. According to the info that my Dr. gave me 2oz of chicken has 8 grams of protein in it. I hope this helps let me know if there is anything that I can do for you. Loni

I agree about the shakes, although I do like the Unjury. But have you used the protein counter on this site to see if you can get enough protein from just eating? My understanding is that once we are over the soft stage, and are eating mainly protein, it should be possible to stop the shakes entirely. Give it a try ... between cheese, yogurt, and meats, you may get enough. Also, some people add protein powder to pudding, and I have seen hi-protein soups and pudding being sold on the internet. ~~ Leslie BTW, have you registered your info in your Profile? You should ... it is fun to keep a 'diary' on-line!

Well from what I understand alot of people develop a milk intolerance after surgery. I seem to have and am having extreme difficulty getting mine in and I am sick of soup. It is not easy. Sorry.

I am now using the lactose free milk, just in case. It even comes with extra calcium! Leslie

I don't really like the protien powder stuff either. but i have found that making smoothies REALLY helps me. I got my recipe from a site I found here at obesityhelp.com it was http://www.smoothie-central.com. My own version of their recipe is about 1/2 cup of fatfree milk plus AB, a container of fat free yogurt (yoplait whatever flavor) half a banana and a full scoop of the protien powder. its foamy and I really like the taste. I also REALLY highly recommend isopure drinks. they are kindof koo-aid ish in tast but give you 40 grams in a 20 oz drink. admittedly its not as much as the powder but it better than none. Best of Luck and I hope things improve for you. Sean

Try using some protein poweder in juice with ice. You can get vanilla or unflavored. I'm not sure what stage you're at and what you're allowed but just sprinkle protein powder on anything you're allowed to eat. You won't even know it's there if you use just a teaspoon or so. Hope this helps! Michelle

I had my surgery on 12/06. I too was having problems with the various protein drinks I had. I went to my Whole Foods Market and found a wonderful Whey protein drink made by Jay Robbs. It comes in vanilla and chocolate and I find them delicious and they give me lots of protein. If I mix one scoop with smart skim milk = 30 grams protein. If I mix with water than =24 grms protein. I mix the drinks up and shake to dissolve any clumps there might be. I am getting between 70 to 90 grams per day and this pleases my weight loss doctors and nutrionist. I also just bought some Atkins protein bars. I have not had one yet but they read good with lots of protein and no sugars. Hope you do well and continue trying new things, something will work wonderfully for you. Monica
