Amount of food

I am getting worried about how much solid food I can eat. I was told that my pouch would hold 20 cc's, about 2 small sausages. But I think it holds more, or my stoma is too big! For instance, I had a slice of meatloaf with 2 T. mashed potatoes, and another day I had a whole hot dog with 1 oz. cheese, etc.! And I didn't feel full after those meals, either! For breakfast, I had the 2 sausages PLUS a whole egg, scrambled. I'm supposed to have one or the other, not both, according to the size of my stomach. (I had the proximal RNY) I know that it stretches in time, but this is pretty early! BTW, I just found sugar FREE peanut butter and sugar FREE Jello pudding cups in the Food Lion. About time!

I just wanted to say that I am sorry you are worried. Maybe you should call your doctor tomorrow and see if that's normal? They can help put some fears to rest probably. I am amazed your doctor allows you to eat that kind of food already. I'm jealous too. haha I am on broths and water for the first week. Then I am on creamed soups, smoothies, pudding, etc. for the following five weeks. Then for six weeks, I am on soft foods. After that, I can start eating "normally" like you've done. mmmmmmmm Anyway, good luck and keep us posted! xoxo Melissa

How awful! FIVE weeks of soft, and SIX of mu****hat's the longest I have heard. But I guess better to be cautious. Maybe I will go back to that, since it is easier in a lot of ways. Leslie

Five weeks of basically pureed food seems too cautious. My doctor/nutritionist gave me the new guidelines for WLS from the Mayo clinic on my discharge--surgery was 12/16. These guidelines call for 3 days liquid; 4-17 days on pureed foods; then 18-45 days on soft foods (nothing raw, etc.). I've done well on this schedule. My main problem is eating/drinking too fast!! I do think you need to drink a lot of protein shakes--just to get the proper amount of protein in; salmon souffle (check my profile for recipe)--worked very well for me at the beginning of the pureed stage. Hi Leslie! Sorry to hear you are having these problems. You should call the nutritionist, I think. But I am replying for a different reason. Do you go to the Food Lion in Gunston Plaza?? I would like the SF jello pudding cups and peanut butter as well, and I cannot find it up here (I live in Tysons). I go down there to the dollar tree quite often, and could swing by the food lion while I am there (And we don't have Food Lion up here, that is the closest to me) Let me know! ~Dianna~
