Drain question
Hi Melissa,
I had my surgery on the 14th of December and my first followup visit to the surgeon on the 23rd. It was then that the drainage tube was removed. There was a little soft plastic bottle attached to the end of the tube which I had to empty myself periodically and keep record of the amount of cc's emptied. The fluid was pinkish in color, sometimes light, sometimes a little darker. To me, this indicated there was blood mixed in with it. I was told that this was normal. Once the tube was removed, the place soon scabbed over, and I have had no more problems with it.
I have heard some say that they experienced a certain amount of drainage after the tube was removed, but I was lucky in that respect. It is a scarey thing to have that tube hanging out of you...but it will be OK.
I hope this helps. God bless you!
Pat
my drain had a lot of blood goop in the tube, I was watching the drain the whole day and wondering why there was nothing coming out, I noticed when I was changing my dressings that there was a lot of clotted blood at the top of the drain tube, i kept stretching it and pulling it down until it came down, it was like 5 inches long, and there was a lot of fluid behind it, it's flowing good now, but the clots are normal btu don't let them build up and block up the drain, i'm sure it won't be good.
