4 days post op and anyone with problems with couging and choking at night
Hi, this didn't happen in the hospital that I can remember, but since I've been home especially last night, I took my nexium, the little purple pill. And then went to bed and I did sleep on 3 pillows to kind of prop myself up last night. Within an hour I woke up and was choking and coughing. I actually had to cough to clear my lungs like I had aspirated water or something. I checked my heart rate it was normal. How does the pouch work. Can anyone educate me a little. Do I not have a pyloric spicter that open and closes anymore? Was that totally removed when my pouch was made? This will be awful if I can't ever sleep lying down anymore. Oh yes, I have other questions like how do I post in my journal? I still haven't figured that out yet.
Thanks,

Are you still doing your deep breathing treatments every hour or so?! That will help clear up your lungs! Make sure you take very deep breaths. I held a pillow over my stomache when I did it. If your symptoms continue, I would call your surgeon because it could be a sign of pneomonia which can happen if you don't do the breathing treatments.
Good Luck! You're on the losing side! WOOHOO!

Are you taking anything for acid? Is Nexium for that? Then you should be taking it before you go to bed, probably. Your symptoms remind me of a problem I had before starting CPAP for apnea. My doctor started me on Prevacid (I'm using Zantac, actually) as part of his normal routine. I take it before bed, like before.
