Lap Band Scheduled for Dec 21
Hi all: Such a great board. Great to see the success you are all having here. I'm scheduled to have the lap band surgery on Tuesday. Looking forward to it, but a little nervous. I guess that's normal. Not sure what the first few day after the surgery will be like. Also, three weeks on clear liquids will be a challenge. Any suggestions on how to handle the transition will be appreciated. Thanks!
Hi Joe!
Congratulations on your date! I was banded on 12/2. I have lots of stuff in my profile...feel free to read, but here is the scoop...
The day of surgery and that night I loved my morphine pump very much! I was up that night to go to the bathroom and walk just a bit around my room. They sent me home at noon the next day with pain pills. I took those for the next 2 days and at night on the 4th day. I woke up on the 5th day and felt like myself. From then on, it just got better every day. I was able to start sleeping on my side on the 12th day (I think) and can sleep on my tummy too.
If I didn't have the larger incision site, I'd have to wonder if I was actually banded! You can actually push lightly and feel the port, so I know it happened.
My tummy swelling must have gone way down because I am able to eat/drink over a cup at a time and don't really have to go very slowly. I am making sure to chew well when I eat mushies, but other than that it is all good and pretty much the way I used to be. I'm looking forward to my post-op appt on Tues and am hoping that my Dr. will let me start on real foods.
It is really great and you heal so fast with this type of surgery. I actually went out to eat (a cup of soup and a few bites of mashed potatoes) and to a movie at 1 week out!
Can't wait to hear how yours goes. Hop on here and let us know as soon as you feel up to it!
Pam
