SURGERY POSTPONED AGAIN!!

Today, I went for my pre-op at the hospital. Among the things that were done was an interview with the Anesthesiologist. She asked me when my last stress test was done, and I told her eleven years ago. I also told her that about seven years ago, I had a cardiac catheretization procedure done that had turned out OK. I was told that was not good enough..that due to my age, I would need a more RECENT stress test done before I could have the surgery. My surgeon only does bariatric surgeries on Tuesdays, and the stress test I need would take two days to complete. They scheduled me for Monday afternoon (which was when I was supposed to have the bowel prep) for the stress test. It won't be read and evaluated until Tuesday morning. They won't even talk about doing the surgery until they see the results...and without the bowel prep, I can't have it Tuesday, anyway! I have NO CLUE as to when he will have a "free Tuesday" again!! Right now...I am extremely upset. Needless to say, I was upset at the hospital, too...I'm not so sure they will be happy to see me again. They tell me it is due to the age factor that the stress test is vital to have. What really ticks me off is that my AGE HAS BEEN KNOWN ALL ALONG...for the PAST SIX MONTHS. So, WHY are they waiting until the last minute to say, "ooops...we need a stress test....sorry!" This is the SECOND time I have had to call my kids, who were coming in from out of state for my surgery, and tell them NOT to come...when they had already scheduled the time off. AND..needless to say, THEY are upset too...who can blame them! Please forgive me if I don't respond to any posts here..as I am going to be spending the rest of the afternoon having a good cry!! I have removed the surgery date from my profile, as God only knows when I will be having it done, now! Thank you all who have been there for me up until now, and who have signed my surgery page. I am so sorry for this. Poor woman. I hate when they do their little "oh by the way" you have to this and that before they get down to business. Just keep your head up you got this far and will move along. I didn't look at your profile but I'm hitting the age limit myself. 57 now and very heavy. I just made it. My date is Tuesday Dec. 7. I am so sorry that they did not tell you of all the necessary tests in advance. I think it is so cruel to make you go through this but keep the faith and I know that you will soon have this in the past and be on the losing side. God Bless You, Pat T

Pat I am so sorry to hear you have to go through this. I was told that I needed a cardiology and pulmonary clearance before my preop visit, and wound up having to have heart cath because of the stress test, but everything was fine. I am 49. I do know some of them do different if over 40 but like you said they have known your age for 6mths. Take a deep breath and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that things will be ok come Monday. Kathy
