Appetite Suppressant - Question
Hi Norma,
You look wonderful
I'm not proud of this but when I got up to 166lbs I ordered diet pills over the internet and got back down to 154lbs. Did not bother my pouch but my husband was PISSED!!
I'm now dealing with a thyroid problem and low calcium which I'm going to see my PCP on Monday about as my mood swings are awful. One second I'm crying, next I'm giggling. One second I love my husbnad, the next I hate him, It's AWFUL!!!
Hugs Donna
Hi Donna,
You are so sweet. Thank you so much for sharing that with me. I have been asking around for months and nobody wanted to admit they've taken them or even answer my question. I don't have insuance right now so I can't go see any of my doctors. What kind did you get online? I would like to loose 25 - 30 lbs.
I stopped loosing at 6 months and I never got to my goal. I haven't lost any weight in a year. I'm hungry all the time and I already gained 10 - 15 lbs. It makes me feel like a failure.
I really appreciate you being so honest. I hope you get your health problems resolved soon.
Love,
Norma

I'm not going to lie to anyone. I'm a pretty straight forward and honest person. We have all been there with our weight and some of us still deal with issues. We are here for each other
I took Phentramine. Look up Diet pills on the internet and you'll find lots of sites. I only did one month and stopped as my husband got upset with me. Be careful as they'll make you speed like crazy and that's probably from us having WLS. You also have to watch what you eat even taking diet pills. It's called dieting
My surgeon said my goal is 130lbs and I'm around 155/157lbs and everyone tells me DON'T LOSE ANYMORE as you look wonderful. I think it's up to each person where they want to stop.
My problem is not eating enough. Once a day and throwing it all up or half of it up don't help issues.
Ever want to talk email me, OK?
Hugs Donna
Hey Donna, your mood swings sound mysteriously like they could be perimenopausal related. Just a thought. I don't know your age or anything, but severe mood swinging is part of this whole change before the change thing.
After my WLS, I had 8 months of no periods due to the controlled malnutrition. Now, I am experiencing night sweats and the mood swings. I'm looking into some natural remedies for it. But I just wanted to throw that out there for you.

Norma, I purchased those green tea diet pills but never tried them. Finally just threw them away. As a nurse I know better. I wouldn't try anything over the counter. I would ask a doctor for a prescription appetite suppressant. Here's an alternative.
You can look online for this: try the Cardiac Diet from Birmingham Alabama hospital. You go on the specific diet for 3 days and eat exactly as it tells you. You're off for 4 days but still have to eat in moderation and healthy. You will lose 10 pounds in 7 days. Just discovered it and It works! When you get the urge to snack, try healthy snacks - the 100 calorie pack snacks, fruit, bite sized peeled carrots are my favorites, and I can even eat a mini bag of microwave popcorn (no butter) and DRINK some type of fluid. I like Crystal Light, Diet Snapple and decaf Diet Green Tea (all recommended by my surgeon's Physician's Assistant).
FYI
A co-worker of mine (also a nurse) who did not have WLS (thin as a rail) decided not to really eat all day. She just drank water and other fluids and 1 meal that day; although we told her she needed to eat somethng, she would not. She took otc diet pills and w/in 30 to 45 minutes she turned beet red, got hot and flushed, she was running like she was set on fast forward, nervous and jittery w/ heart palpitations that we finally had to send her to the ER. She ended up w/ an abnormal EKG and had to be put on medications to decrease the workload of her heart and regulate her blood pressure. It's not worth it. Find a physical activity you enjoy and get back to basics.
Norma, did you have an RNY? with a transected (meaning cut completely away) stomach? If so, it is physically impossible for you to be hungry. Are you sure you are not experiencing "head hunger"?
I would like to suggest for your consideration that you might look into going back to the basics of the surgery. Use the rules as your WEPN and get that tool working for you again. Now, of course, if your stomach is not transected, then it is possible you are having a staple line break through and are really hungry. But if you have a transected pouch, then you might want to give the rules another try. Here they are:
Water -- min. of 64 oz. per day
Exercise -- 20 min per day (come on, be honest, are you exercising?)
Protein FIRST -- min. of 60 grams per day (either in food or supplements)
No snacking -- again, be honest, are you snacking? if they are white carbs, your body is getting the signal to produce insulin and you are getting cravings because of the carbs. Try sticking to only protein and veggies for a few days and see how you feel.
You left the "diet mentality" at the operating room door, didn't you? If not, do it now. You don't need diet pills.
I am NOT being judgemental, honestly. I'm just trying to encourage you to look at this a different way. The people who are gaining weight, if they are honest, are not following the rules of WEPN. That is not a judgement call, it is just a statement of fact (as I have observed).
hang in there, you can do it!

I agree with you Jean that it's better to try something different then diet pills. Like I said I took them for a month but from passed exprience they only work for so long and then they stop working.
I was being totally honest and up front with her. I hate when people won't answer my questions She asked and I told her what I did but like I said my husband got very upset with me as he don't feel they are healthy.
It's so dark and raining out here in my neck of the woods today.
Donna
Jean,
Thanks for your opinion and information. Trust me I took all the pills there are OTC and prescribed. Unfortunately they only worked temporarily and that is what I'm looking for right now. I know that if I get closer to my goal I'm going to do my best to maintain.
I had RNY and my surgeon made my pouch bigger than others because he was affraid I was going to get too small.
I'm 5' 10" and I was only 242 lbs when I went to see him for the first consultation visit. My BMI was 32.4. By the day of the surgery I was 233 lbs. So he figured that if he did my pouch as small as others I was going to end up being too skinny. Because of his decision and my poor eating habits now I'm anable to loose anymore and I even gained.
Yes, I'm not going to lie. I have done horrible with my eating and no I haven't work out in a while. I'm not going to make excuses but I just can't get back on track. I have tried eating better and work out and I can't seem to loose any weight for the past year. That has discouraged me so much and I feel horrible for having this surgery and being one of the many failures.
I got so tired of judgemental people here on the main messageboard. Everytime I came to post about my problem and wanted to hear positive things all they did was made me feel worse about myself. That's the reason why I stopped coming to the OH alltogether.
I really want to find something that can help me even if is just a jump start. Once I see the scale move it will be different I know it. My last resource is diet pills.
I have never stopped taking my multivitamins and calcium.
I eat a good amount of protein. I love chicken.
I drink at least 64 oz of water.
Yes I do eat carbs and I don't work out (working on that)
I still don't loose any weight.
This is being like this for a year. I understand that there's other people that have a lot more will power and that can handle this a lot better than me.
Thanks a lot for your help.
