Constipation Problem!

I am about a year and a 1/2 post op and I am still battling constipation problems. I get compacted , then I have to use a remedy such as Phillips milk of magnesia, It helps....then it starts all over again! I have tried eating fiber. I had started eating a hand full of shredded wheat, and have been eating watermelon. These help a bit but never clears everything. I always feel bloated. I probably don't get quite enough of the water I should, but I drink other sugerfree fluids. I don't exercise like I should. I DO stick more to high protien foods more than not. Maybe not enough veggies. But even when I conciously correct these things, it doesn't seem like enough to get things regulated! If anyone has some suggestions, please let me know

I used to have the problem before surgery. Not anymore. I sometimes have not gone for a couple days. I try to eat carrots with peanut butter and drink lots of water. I also started excersing regularly. I try to eat at least 1 salad a day. I belive that these things have helped me. I did have a little time when I wasn't feeling too hot and felt all bloated. I tried to use a natural regiman of vitamins that I heard cleanse out your colon. That really helped alot. Your sister in WLS Chandi 305/192/?

Karen, You probably want to get some advice from your doctor. I've found the lots of water and exercise definitely help. I alse take the chewable fiber wafers 3 times a day and I take colace 2 times a day. These things seem to be working for me now. I hope you find a remedy soon! Take care, Mary

I feel for you! My problem is pregnancy though lol.. Have you tried stool softners when it starts to back up? Also I know this will sound bad, but when it gets yucky raisins help..lol They might make you feel sick if you eat too many because of the high sugar but they help you go go go.. Start putting the fiber powder stuff in your drinks, three times a day, and stick to it. If you have tried all these sorry, just are things that helped me. Michelle

I am sorry to hear about your constipation. I would call you doctor to see what they say. Did you have this problem before your surgery? Brenda

I only had an occasional problem with constipation before the surgery. I received some recommendation from some people on this message board that I think I will try. I think I will start with the Smooth move tea. If these things don't help then I will go to the Dr

Ohhhh honey I've been there and I know how miserable that can be.... It is so miserable.... Here's the suggestions that have helped me: 1. Drink a minimum of 64 oz of water a day (What I do now is add those On-the-go by Crystal Light or even the SF Koolaid ones). This will count as water. 2. Avoid caffeine at all costs as it will dehydrate your body of the water it needs. 3. Try to eat more fruit and some veggies too. Watermelon, apples, grapes etc are good. Truthfully the more water you drink, the better off you will be. I drink the bottled water only because our water is icky here! It does help keep things flowing so to say. Goodluck hon! And I do hope you get to feeling much better soon. Chelle
