Hello!
Teresa, Hi there!!! Welcome to this board. I am going to read your profile to get to know you. Please feel free to read mine. My name is Lorraine. I am 54 years old and was obese most of my life. I had WLS on 12/15/03. I was a brittle diabetic, with severe nueropathy. I took 18 pills a day and lots of insulin. I had many comorbidities. I weighed at the time of my surgery 245 lbs. I still wear a size 8 but they are snug. I have been for about one year at "Goal". I am struggling alot lately also. I seem to be able to digest after having such a hard time for so long digesting. I have gained 10 pounds. My clothes are a bit tight, but I am 5ft6 and weighing now about 145 lbs. I had gotten to 135 pds, which to me was just too thin. I am trying to maintain and hoping the extra 10 comes off. To help it out I have bought snack size popcorn bags and made sure I bought the Fat Free one. I am eating much less carbs. I had my 2 year checkup and my bloodwork is great. I will be on my bike as soon as the weather gets a bit warmer. I hope to see you soon and please lets hear about your weight loss.
Take care and WELCOME
Lorraine
RNY 12/15/03....245 lbs
At present...............145 lbs Trying to hand in there
Dear Theresa,
Hi. I am glad you came to the boards. It is a struggle. Sometimes it seems unfair that other people can eat things that would put 5 lbs instantly on me, but as long as I can remember I have had to watch what I eat.
I have never made it to my goal... to be normal weight for my height. I am now 136 lbs, started out at 272 the day of surgery (I had lost 20 lbs in the year with the nutritionist) I am still trying with everything that is in me to make my goal. Oh, I am only 5' tall. I usually exercise every day, but this week I skipped the last 3 days because company has been over and I have a horrible toothache. They are still here, so I don't know what will happen, but I HATE missing more then 2 days a week. I am 50 years old.
I drink 1 or 2 protein drinks a day and always eat protein first. I found very healthy pasta to make speghetti with...it is high protein and high fiber! I don't drink enough water, but I do drink a lot of fluids, including crystal light and decaff coffee.
Kinda feels like dieting before WLS.
Take care and please come back!
Allison
Hello Theresa,
I've been out sick with the 'flu for two weeks, but welcome to the board. We all have our 'struggles'. I do daily with snacking and chocolate. I only lost 100 of the 150 I needed to lose, but I'm healthy and wearing the same size I did in 11th grade, a 14 with few 12's. We just have to do what works, whether its a food diary, being accountable to another person, exercise, or just plain starving oneself. We just try to be here for each other bouncing ideas back and forth, or just listening.
Anyway, welcome, and please post often.

Our December boards can be kinda slow.....but there are a few of us diehards left We all do have our struggles.....everyone seems to think the first 6 months are so hard......if we only knew......I think it gets harder the farther out we get.....for me and a lot of others....food wise we are pretty "normal" these days, so it is all about calories in/ versus calories out....well thats what screwed me to begin with So I for one, am working my tail off......trying to get back on the exercise bandwagon.....trying to cut out all grazing, it is tough! But we come here when we need support, or a swift kick in the rear I was up 12lbs....and it was/is the pits.....seems to come on so quick....but man oh man taking it off is going SLOWLY!!!! Hope to see you around more! Take Care jesi
Theresa, welcome to the 12/2003 board. We've slowed down with our posts as we've gotten further out. I personally try to come back once and awhile to see how everyone is doing. I've not had to worry too much about weight gain since I lost 15 pounds below my personal goal of 130 putting me at 114# one year post op....I ended up needing to gain a few pounds. Being 26 months post op now, though, I find foods are becoming a "temptation" again. I'm trying to increase my activity level since my daily calorie intake is still below 1350 most days. Let us know how you are doing ~

Hi Theresa
I had my wls on Dec 1 2003 as well.My starting weight was 598 lbs and today I weigh 215 lbs.Latly I have been able to eat a lot more than before.I know that I have lost 2 people but I worry a lot that I will regain my weight back and I never want to go back to that 600 lb man who held me back for so many years.I have gone to drinking slimfast with 13 grams of protien and I hope that if I replace a meal each day with that it will help me get back on track.I am very happy to meet you and good luck Theresa and email me any time st5eve
