Support Needed
Hi! My anniversary date is December 1. I have lost 80lbs. I have been staying the same for several months. I only last week started to exercise regularly. During my Thanksgiving visit to my daughter's I mentioned that my favorite ring kept falling off and I had a concern about having it sized--her reply was just wait... (On the 3 hour drive with her and her family I did eat about a cup of Fritos.) Then the next day I got up and walked to Starbucks from her house (approximately 3 miles round trip and she jokingly said I probably ate something while I was there) I told her that she might think she was helping me in some wierd way but I was appalled, discouraged and depressed. My 3 year old granddaughter ask me during the visit how I got a big belly (which is 7 inches smaller than it was before my surgery.) I am discouraged. I have been walking daily. Sometimes I think whats the use?? Did I mention that my daughter is running a marathon next week?
Hi Carol,
You didn't mention how much weight you wanted to loose, or where you started out at. I started at 299. I'm holding at around 197. I'd love to loose another 47lbs, but since I've been here since August, I don't think that's going to happen. I was wearing a size 28-30 and am now into a 14-16, with an occasional 12 top, depending on the cut. You did say you just started exercising. That is an important element to our loosing weight and keeping it off. Do you work outside the home? I work full time, am 52 and enjoy exercising. Wish I had more time for it. Walking briskly is great for burning fat and gaining muscle. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat, but takes up less space. Use a tape measure instead of a scale. Mine has dropped a half an inch on my waist, just by doing 50-60 scrunchies a night for three weeks. I bought some weights and am toning up nicely. My DH says I've got more muscles on my back than he does. Here's a suggestion: Instead of eating Fritos, eat soy chips. Less fat, carbs, calories and many taste wonderful. I get some in my local supermarket, the white cheddar ones and they're pretty good. Please post again, as we love to hear from everyone.

Sorry to hear that you are so down. I slacked off on my excercising and can tell. I have found that the more you excercise the better you feel inside. It just puts a spring in your step. I guess it is one on one time with yourself that helps. Keep your chin up! You will bounce back. I tell myself that I didn't get fat overnight and except for a magic wand it is not gonna come off overnight.
Good luck to ya!

Hi Carol...
hang in there, baby. i have plateau'd several times for as long as two months at a time. during those times, i'd find that my inches would drop. maybe you're doing the same. either way, just do your best everyday, and be gentle with yourself in terms of expectation. remember the adage; it's not what you're eating, it's what's eating you...
make friends with your fat and talk to your body. let it know that you no longer need the extra weight/protection and verbally command your body to dump it. it really works! LOL.

Carol,
Do yourself a favor and don't concentrate on the negativity of others even though it is family. I have a daughter who lives with me who has been very negative also on my weight loss. I started at 245 lbs and now I am 133lbs down -112 pds and at "GOAL" She does not pay me any compliments. If I ask her how something looks when I try it on she says OK without even looking. I have come too far to let this discourage me so"DONT FEED INTO THAT NONSENSE" ok?
It is very nice that your daughter is running a marathon.Congrads to her.
Take care of "YOU" Keep up your good work to your great weight loss
and support from meeeeeeeeeeeeeee Lorraine
Carol, Why are you so bummed out? Because someone (even if they are family) doesn't say nice things to you? So what? You had the surgery for you. You are losing the weight for you. You are doing FOR YOU. Perhaps they are jealous. You go girl. It will take time...but you have time....And that is 80 pounds you have lost. Congratulations! I'm proud of you and so are a lot of other people. Keep up the good work!
