Did anyone watch Dateline last night?
Hi there to my friends.
Last night on the New York Message Board I saw a message that Al Roker would be on NBC Dateline. I am so glad I turned it on.
Did anyone watch it?
What did you think?
Was you WLS decision made strickly upon the surgeries of past famous people?
If you watched it, What was your opinion on those very overweight children?
Did anyone watch it?....Yes I watched it. It showed both sides of the WLS issues. The pros and cons
What did you think?.......I think the show was great.I was never under the impression that teens took their weight so seriously. I see so many overweight teens..
Was you WLS decision made strickly upon the surgeries of past famous people?.......I did read Carne Wilsons "Gut Feelings" but my weight loss was never decided upon ,anyone elses surgery even the famous people who have done it.This man who had passed away after WLS had sent Al Ropker and Email asking him about the surgery. His wife said he was so imspired by Al Roker.
If you watched it, What was your opinion on those very overweight children?....My heart really went out to those 2 overweight children. I have an over weight daughter who was 350lbs at the age of 22. She did gastric bypass in 2000. She has gained most of her weight back. I really felt like when I saw that part.
Anyway guys have a great weekend ...Lorraine
Oh darn, I missed it. I really try to watch those specials when they are on....it interest me on how the media sometimes puts a spin on things.
I read anything and everything about surgery prior to my decision. Famous people business is usually never private so we all tend to get the scoop on them...but I think those folks are just the same as you or me.
That is a shame your daughter gained back her weight....how did that happen? I do fear that at times.....as I am sure many of us do.
Karie
Karie, How are you? My daughter works in the restaurant business part time. She works in Red Lobster so I guess she is munching all the time. I really don't discuss too much with her. That is one subject she does not talk about. I do feel bad that she never got to goal. She was 350 lbs and got down to about 230 pds and that was it. I have that terrible fear myself.
I wish my daughter and I could talk about it, but she is very private. When she is ready I will talk to her.
Have a great weekend......Lorraine
Well, I was a little bumbed the other day. My plastic surgery TT was denied from my insurance. I got the offical letter today fromt them and it is not as bad as I thought. The PS office sent in my pic and application for the TT surgery. However, there was no PCP documentation about why I needed it...meaning rashes, irritation etc. So, now I got to meet my PCP and get him to write a letter talking about how I am getting rashes. Truth of the matter...I have no rashes but the excess skin does interfer with daily routines in life. I have to make rashes appear.....so I break out if I use leg hair removal so I am got to put that on my upper thigh area and take a photo. Is that not awful ...but it will work.
I think we all get that fear of gaining again....I go nuts when the scale bounces back and forth between 2-3 pounds. I still love that I did this surgery. I got to buy a size 8 jean yesterday and felt wonderful. Its great not to look for the 2x or 3x clothing.
Well, hope you are recovering well and have a great evening!
Karie
Did anyone watch it?
Yes, I watched it.
What did you think?
I thought it was well done, showing both sides of the issue.
Was you WLS decision made strickly upon the surgeries of past famous people?
No, I didn't know of any famous people who had it done at the time of my decision. That wouldn't have influenced me anyway. I chose for me.
If you watched it, What was your opinion on those very overweight children
Sad, so very sad. I hope they can help these and other kids.
Nona
I watched it and i thought it was heart warmong and very informitive!
Even to see al's story again was very interesting hes doing great~I think as long as a teens family and the teenagers know what there getting into its ok for them to go ahead with the procedure and i think it was awesome how the boy researched it for 2 years before the surgery educating himself about the surgery,
I myself had the surgery 11 months ago and am feeling great now
Thanks for posting the conversation and god bless i hope things are well for you as well!!!
I specifically watched this program because my surgeon, Dr Dan Procter, and his practice/program Obesity Solutions, had a segment on this show. I for some reason thought that Dateline would be doing a show on the success stories of patients that have had WLS. Boy was I ever WRONG.
When I heard that Dateline was coming to our support group to film I was thrilled! Not that I wanted to be recognized for my success with WLS, but because Dr Procter would be recognized for the thousands of lives he has saved or at the very least made so much better through WLS.
Dr Procter is one of the better bariatric surgeons whose mortality rate is drastically lower than the national average. I also work for the healthcare facilty where Dr Procter performs surgery. I know first hand how commited both are at having an excellent bariatric program. I am extremely proud of both Dr Procter and my employer for the quality healtcare they provide every single day.
After viewing the show, I was devasted that NBC choose to showcase once again the negative aspect of WLS. I guess ratings are ratings and it was sweeps week.
Shame on NBC.
